Billy Napier Finalizing Deal to Become James Madison's New Head Coach
James Madison is hiring former Florida head coach Billy Napier after it was announced that Bob Chesney is leaving the program to become the head coach at UCLA. The school is working to finalize a deal with Napier, according to Chris Low of On3Sports. The 46-year-old was excellent at the University of Louisiana, tallying a 40-12 record and qualifying for the Sun Belt Championship Game in each of his four seasons with the program. His tenure at Florida was far different, as he went 22-23 despite recruiting at a high level. Napier is known as a talented recruiter, but his unwillingness to give up play-calling duties and lack of effectiveness on that side of the ball ended up being his undoing. Still, his track record of success in a lower conference could bode well for his future with James Madison.
