Gameweek 1 Rankings - Fantasy Premier League Predictions, Tips, and Picks for 2023/24

FPL Gameweek 1 rankings, predictions, tips, and picks for Fantasy Premier League lineups. RotoBaller's EPL fantasy football Gameweek 1 rankings for 2023/24.

Welcome to the 2023/24 Fantasy Premier League season, RotoBallers! This is the third year covering FPL on the site, and we are bringing you more coverage than ever before. We will publish the Gameweek Preview consisting of a Staff Roundtable and our weekly rankings every week. Then, once a month, we will publish our newest article: The Watchlist, a review of the previous month and a look ahead to the upcoming fixtures.

It's finally here! Another season of Fantasy Premier League. Gameweek 1 kicks us off with the defending Champions, Manchester City, traveling to newly-promoted Burnley. Then, we have games on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday as Manchester United and Wolves round out the first weekend of football.

The Gameweek 1 deadline is 1:30 PM EST on Friday, August 11, for the Burnley-Man City game. Also, look out for the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every English Premier League, Major League Soccer, and UEFA Champions League slate from a DFS and betting perspective.

Fantasy Premier League - Gameweek 1 Rankings

Our weekly rankings highlight players who could be worth a punt in your Fantasy Premier League squad. While the rankings will be filled with familiar names, a low-owned player with an easy fixture will rise up the one-week charts. For each gameweek, we will provide our top 10 goalkeepers and forwards, as well as our top-15 defenders and midfielders.

Last Year's Fantasy Premier League High Scorers

  • Goalkeeper: David Raya, Brentford - 166 points
  • Defender: Kieran Trippier, Newcastle - 198 points
  • Midfielder: Mohamed Salah, Liverpool - 239 points
  • Forward: Erling Haaland, Manchester City - 272 points

FPL Goalkeepers - Gameweek 1 Rankings

  • There isn't much between the top-four options on this week's chart. Ederson is the most expensive, Onana is on the most teams (25.6 teams selected by percentage), Aaron Ramsdale has the best clean sheet odds, and Jason Steele has the best opponent.
  • Since this is Gameweek 1, I'm leaning toward Onana over the other three because he's more likely to be a set-and-forget keeper than Ramsdale or Steele, and he's £0.5m cheaper than Ederson.
  • Jordan Pickford (12.8 TSB%) is the fifth-most-picked goalkeeper in the game, but the odds are not in his favor. His 31 percent Clean Sheet odds are worse than Sam Johnstone's (1.7 TSB%) thanks to Crystal Palace playing newly-promoted Sheffield United.

FPL Defenders - Gameweek 1 Rankings

  • Pervis Estupinan has the attacking prowess and one of the best fixtures for Gameweek 1. He's a must-own defender for our FPL squads.
  • Kieran Trippier may perform well this weekend, but Newcastle's fixtures over the season's first month mean he is not in our Gameweek 1 squads.
  • Gabriel (28.1 TSB%) and Saliba (16.9 TSB%) crack the top five with a visit from Nottingham Forest. Going with Saliba could give you an excellent differential against the template picks.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold is 17th on this week's FPL rankings. He's projected to score 3.465 points and may have lost some of his set-piece-taking duties to newcomer Dominik Szoboszlai.

FPL Midfielders - Gameweek 1 Rankings

  • Kaoru Mitoma comes out on top for Gameweek 1 in the £6.5m midfielders battle. Eberechi Eze, Bryan Mbeumo, Pascal Groß, and Solly March remain in the conversation, but it's the Japanese dribbling master with the most predicted points. Still, Eze and Mbeumo are on penalties for their clubs and deserve a lot of consideration.
  • Seeing Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford atop the midfielder rankings is not surprising. But seeing Mohamed Salah in seventh did raise some eyebrows. Currently, the Egyptian has a 23.8 TSB% and is considered a differential, but a game against Chelsea seems to be warding off the predicted points.
  • Son Heung-min (£9.0m) is 12th, but his teammate James Maddison (£7.5m) is 22nd in the midfielder rankings, that feels off. Maddison's looked electric in the all-out attacking Spurs this preseason, and he's the most likely Tottenham player to make my Gameweek 1 lineup.

FPL Forwards - Gameweek 1 Rankings

  • Expect to see Erling Haaland at the top of the forward rankings for most of the season. A 56 percent chance at an anytime score is something FPL managers dream of when selecting a player to their lineup.
  • The most pleasant discovery was seeing Joao Pedro with the second-highest odds of scoring a goal this week at 49 percent. Brighton spent a (then) record transfer fee to acquire the striker, and he's looked the part over the summer. It seems like he's on penalties for the Seagulls, and a starting nod in Gameweek 1 would be a huge differential.
  • Yoane Wissa is the co-star to Bryan Mbeumo for Brentford's attack. With Ivan Toney's suspension, Wissa will play right through the middle and receive any service from the Brentford attack. At £6.0m, he's a fantastic shout as a budget forward.
