MLB Network ranked the top left fielders in all of baseball on Monday and came to the conclusion that the Indians' Michael Brantley is the current king of the hill.
This is not entirely surprising, even with him slated to start the season on the disabled list. Brantley has been an offensive juggernaut since coming into his own in 2012. Since then, his 14.3 WAR is fourth-best among all left fielders according to Fangraphs, behind only former left fielder Bryce Harper and current left fielders Alex Gordon and Yoenis Cespedes. His wRC+ of 124 is also fourth-best, better than Cespedes, Starling Marte and Justin Upton. But no left fielder can touch him in terms of K%, as his 9.2% is easily tops. He just does not give up at-bats, a tenacity that underlines his fantasy relevance. Even with the anticipated missed time, Baseball Reference projects him to hit .303 with 15 home runs, 76 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 508 at-bats. Not bad for a player likely to come with an injury discount in most drafts.
