ANALYSIS: Luis Medina made his 2024 debut on Sunday, and it was an impressive one as he allowed only one unearned run on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts against the Atlanta Braves.
Medina threw 89 pitches through 5 2/3 innings, showing some solid velocity on his fastball as he averaged 95.7 mph on his four-seamer. His curveball was very effective, as he got six whiffs with it and a 32% CSW% on the day.

Medina had made just three starts in the minors this season before being called up, but his first start for Oakland on Sunday should guarantee him a spot in the rotation going forward.
Last year, Medina made 17 starts for Oakland during his rookie campaign and finished with a 5.42 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 109 innings. However, he had a stretch of starts in July where he looked really good, compiling a 2.86 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts across 22 innings.
Medina is an add only in the deepest of formats right now, but if you are in a shallower league, add him to your watch list. He's a talented young pitcher who should get a chance to prove himself this season in Oakland.
