Kevin Pillar (OF, TOR) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in deep mixed and AL-only leagues

OWNED IN: 13% Yahoo!, 20.3% ESPN

ANALYSIS: Mainly known for his Superman-esque play in centerfield, Kevin Pillar is often disregarded as a fantasy option in the majority of shallower mixed leagues. However, Pillar shouldn't be overlooked in deeper formats.

Yes, Pillar's bat is less than stellar. Even though he has above-average wheels and solid contact skills (16% career K%), his 4.2% BB% prevents him from running batting averages and on-base percentages that are higher than .260 and .300, respectivley. However, it is Pillar's speed that mainly drives his fantasy value. Pillar missed some time last season due to a thumb injury. Assuming he remains healthy in 2017, Pillar could certainly reach 20 stolen bases. He has enough pop to swat double-digit dingers.

He won't hit high in the Blue Jays order, so his RBI and runs scored totals will be limited. But with the potential for at least ten home runs and 20 swipes along with a manageable batting average, owners should take a flier on Pillar as a bench piece in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
