Free agency does not officially begin until the legal tampering period starts on March 11, but Jonnu Smith already inked a deal with the Miami Dolphins. Since Smith was not on an expiring contract but was instead released by the Atlanta Falcons, he was free to get ahead of the free-agent frenzy.
After a strong season with the Falcons, he's set to join one of the best passing offenses in the NFL. There is clearly target competition in South Florida, so it's an interesting landing spot for fantasy football.
Is Smith a good fit in Miami? What is his 2024 fantasy football outlook? Let's dive in.

Jonnu Smith Contract Details
The Miami Dolphins signed Smith to a two-year deal worth up to $10 million. This comes after Smith posted career highs in targets (70), receptions (50), and receiving yards (582) in 2023 despite sharing a field with Kyle Pitts and having below-average quarterback play from Desmond Ridder and Taylor Heinicke.

Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins have emphasized adding speed to the offense with players like Tyreek Hill and De'Von Achane, and now they brought in one of the most explosive tight ends in the NFL.
Jonnu Smith 2024 Fantasy Outlook
While sharing targets with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle is far from ideal, Smith now steps into a top passing attack after being in mediocre passing games with his three previous teams (Titans, Patriots, Falcons). The stiff competition for targets means he's highly unlikely to be a weekly fantasy producer, but with a creative offensive mind and plenty of space to operate in the middle of the field, he could have boom weeks.
In managed leagues, he'll likely go undrafted. In best ball formats, he should be viewed as an attractive late-round backup TE option with spike-week upside. Miami should continue to score a ton of touchdowns in 2024, meaning he could be active in the red zone. Don't count on him as your only chance for upside at the position, but there is a path toward production with his change of scenery.
