Veteran running back Melvin Gordon is set to join the Baltimore Ravens for the 2023 NFL season. The former Pro Bowler is well beyond the running back age apex at 30 years old, but the Ravens clearly believe he might have some juice left in his career.
His best days are almost definitely behind him, but his arrival in Baltimore will likely shake up the Ravens' RB room and the fantasy outlooks of multiple players.
Is Gordon a good fit with the Ravens? What is his fantasy football outlook? Let's dive in.

Gordon played in 10 games for the Denver Broncos last season, rushing 90 times for 318 yards (3.5 YPC) and two touchdowns and catching 25 passes for 223 yards. Gordon fumbled five times and was released as the Broncos season went downhill. He then signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and picked up a Super Bowl ring, but he was not active for any games.
Ultimately, the 30-year-old RB was a fantasy bust, posting just one RB1 and three RB2 weekly finishes in half-PPR leagues -- despite Javonte Williams going down with a torn ACL in Week 4. His 3.5 yards per carry was his lowest clip since his 2015 rookie season.
Melvin Gordon 2023 Fantasy Outlook
While Gordon is unlikely to be consistently fantasy-relevant, he could be a thorn in the side of J.K. Dobbins' fantasy managers in 2023. Based on this signing, Baltimore appears to be implementing a committee approach once again under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken.
More than anything, this acquisition spells bad news for Dobbins, Gus Edwards, and even Justice Hill. The Ravens already added Odell Beckham Jr. and Zay Flowers to go along with Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman -- so there are a ton of mouths to feed. Unfortunately, not everyone can be consistent fantasy producers in this offense, so expect all the Ravens skill players except Mark Andrews to create lineup decision headaches in 2023.
All that said, Gordon is sure to at least be on the fantasy radar as a late-round flyer given Dobbins' recent injury history. There's a real outcome where Gordon is the Ravens' lead running back for a few games in 2023. He'll have a mid-range RB2 outlook in those instances.
