Is Joe Mixon Out for the 2025 Season?
Since the start of the regular season, the team has not provided any update on the status of their presumed starter. Before the regular season began, the team placed Mixon on the non-football injury reserve list, which will keep him sidelined for the first four weeks of the campaign.
However, given that he has yet to resume practicing, it suggests he could be sidelined for a much longer period.
He has yet to take the field since the middle of July and appears to be trending in the wrong direction, given the lack of updates. While he has not been officially ruled out for the remainder of the season, managers should not expect the 29-year-old to return in the near future.

Joe Mixon 2025 Fantasy Football Outlook
After tallying 1,016 yards on the ground with 11 scores during the 2024 season in Houston, many expected Mixon to produce high-floor RB2 numbers once again in 2025. In his debut season with the franchise, Mixon also added 36 receptions for 309 yards and a touchdown. During this season, Mixon missed a handful of games but was deployed as the clear workhorse when on the field.
With Mixon sidelined, the Texans have leaned on veteran Nick Chubb to carry most of the load. In the Seahawks opener, Chubb led the way, logging 49% of the snaps, while Dare Ogunbowale operated as the No. 2, seeing 26% of the snaps.
Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks operated in a depth role but could see their snap shares increase if Chubb continues to struggle. In 2024, Chubb had the worst season of his career and tallied only 60 yards in Week 1.
Managers in leagues with IR spots should still continue to hold Mixon, as he could push for a late-season return. However, managers in shallower formats without IR spots should feel comfortable cutting ties with him, as he does not carry a clear timeline as we approach Week 3.
