Is Gus Edwards A Good Fantasy Football Pickup for Week 3? Waiver Wire Outlook

Gus Edwards - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, Draft Sleepers

The Baltimore Ravens were dealt a devastating blow in Week 1 when oft-injured running back J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles' tendon.

There was speculation that Gus Edwards would operate as the Ravens' new No. 1 option out of the backfield, but Justice Hill earned the start and saw more touches than Edwards in Week 2. Nevertheless, Edwards found the end zone and was quite efficient on the ground this past Sunday.

Is this a sign of things to come for Gus Edwards? Should you pick him up in fantasy leagues after his Week 2 showing?

Be sure to also check our other Week 14 fantasy football waiver wire pickups articles:

What Did Gus Edwards Do In Week 2?

Edwards played 43 percent of offensive snaps in Week 2 (compared to Hill's 57 percent). The 28-year-old rushed 10 times for 62 yards and a touchdown. As much as his score provided solid fantasy production, his efficiency (6.2 YPC) was equally exciting.

While Edwards didn't contribute as a receiver, he showed physicality on the ground, pushing through defenders to help move the chains when Hill (3.73 YPC) struggled to do so.

It's also worth noting that Edwards earned 75 percent of offensive snaps inside the five-yard line while Hill garnered the remainder.

Were There Any Worrying Signs With Gus Edwards In Week 2?

Evidently, the main red flag for Edwards in Week 2 was the strong presence of Hill. While the fellow veteran wasn't as efficient on the ground, he logged more carries and also played a significant role in the passing game. Hill will continue to earn snaps and get on the field, which puts a cap on Edwards' upside.

Should I Pick Up Gus Edwards Off the Waiver Wire in Fantasy Football?

Edwards is worth adding off the wire given the way his running style aligns with the Ravens' focus on dominating the run game. He is a gritty running back who fights for yards and touchdowns. While his lack of receiving usage detracts from his fantasy value (especially in PPR leagues), he makes up for it with a significant advantage over Hill in goal-line situations.

Going forward, fantasy managers should view Edwards as an RB3/FLEX option, remaining aware that he might have some occasional dud games in which he fails to find the end zone or Hill vultures too many opportunities.
