BALLER MOVE: Sit in 12+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR4
ANALYSIS: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens had high expectations entering the season. Many believed the young receiver would have a sophomore-year breakout. Unfortunately, he has struggled. Pickens is the WR34 for the season, averaging 9.8 half-point PPR fantasy points per game. Pickens has 37 receptions on 68 targets for 604 receiving yards and three touchdowns this year.
Unfortunately, the former Georgia Bulldogs star has struggled with Diontae Johnson in the lineup. He scored 20 or more fantasy points in half of the contests without the veteran wide receiver. By comparison, Pickens has scored fewer than 8.8 fantasy points in all but one game with Johnson this season, including six or fewer in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, the Steelers face the Cincinnati Bengals in a critical AFC North matchup. The Bengals have held wide receivers to 29.3 fantasy points per game, slightly more than the league average. However, they have struggled lately. Over the past two weeks, Cincinnati has given up 12.5 receptions for 237 receiving yards, 1.5 touchdowns, and 40.8 fantasy points per game to wide receivers.
Yet, fantasy players should avoid starting Pickens despite the appealing matchup. The Steelers fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada earlier this week. Yet, that still might solve a Pittsburgh offense that has been awful in 2023.
