Week 4 Running Back Rankings Outlooks
Jaylen Warren, Pittsburgh Steelers
According to Nick Farabaugh of Penn Live, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren (knee) is expected to play on Sunday despite carrying a questionable designation. Warren was listed as a limited participant throughout the week due to veteran rest and a knee injury.
However, Warren was unable to progress enough to avoid a designation following Friday's final practice. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to his status leading up to kickoff in case he faces a setback, but it appears he is trending in the right direction.
Throughout the opening month of the season, Warren has been able to emerge as the top option in the Pittsburgh backfield. Warren has been given 14.3 rushing attempts per game and seen 4.0 targets per game.
Given his role as a pass-catcher, Warren carries high-floor RB2 value in PPR formats despite facing a tough Minnesota defense that has allowed the 10th fewest PR points to opposing RBs this season. If he is unable to play, Kenneth Gainwell will likely operate as the primary option with Trey Sermon and Kaleb Johnson slotting behind him.
Omarion Hampton, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers rookie running back Omarion Hampton is primed for a heavy workload following the season-ending injury to Najee Harris (Achilles). In the team's 23-20 win over the Denver Broncos, Hampton recorded 19 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown, along with six catches for 59 yards, demonstrating his value in both the running and passing game.
The 0-3 New York Giants are an ideal matchup, ranking in the bottom third in every defensive category and allowing the second-most rushing yards in the league.
Although the absence of guard Mekhi Becton (concussion) could create some vulnerability, Hampton's expected workhorse role and favorable opponent position him for a strong performance. RotoBaller projects Hampton as RB10 this week and considers him a must-start across all formats.
Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving saw a heavy workload during last week's win over the New York Jets. Irving rushed the ball 25 times for 66 yards while hauling in all four of his targets for 33 yards in the victory. The 23-year-old struggled with 2.6 yards per carry, but still finished with nearly 100 scrimmage yards.
Irving should remain heavily involved in the offense during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. A defensive unit that struggled to contain running back Kyren Williams last weekend. Irving should be viewed on the lower end of the RB1 scale for Week 4.
Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty has endured a tough opening stretch, facing three consecutive top-10 run defenses while dealing with offensive line issues. Despite the slow start, Week 4 sets up as his most favorable matchup yet against a Chicago Bears defense ranked 26th against the run.
Chicago has consistently struggled to contain opposing backfields, giving Jeanty a prime opportunity to showcase his explosiveness. With the Raiders likely to lean on the ground game to control the tempo, Jeanty profiles as a strong RB2 option who could deliver his first breakout fantasy performance of the season.
TreVeyon Henderson, New England Patriots
New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson could be in line to register a career-high snap share against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. Henderson led the team with a 46 percent snap share last weekend, and that was only after Rhamondre Stevenson got the start and fumbled away his role. Stevenson ultimately lost two fumbles in the contest, creating plenty of buzz about Henderson potentially handling more volume this week.
While head coach Mike Vrabel wouldn't publicly commit to reducing Stevenson's role, it seems likely given last week's split, as well as the level of production that Henderson has shown this year. He has specifically impressed on passing downs, both as a receiver and blocker.
The Ohio State product is the overall RB35 in fantasy football this year, and while the presence of Stevenson may continue to be a thorn in his side, it won't necessarily preclude him from having standalone fantasy value. Managers should view Henderson as a solid RB3/flex option this week. RotoBaller's fantasy experts agree, ranking him as the overall RB30.
Cam Skattebo, New York Giants
New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo has emerged as the team's bell cow and enters a challenging Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers as a volume-based RB2. The Chargers' defense has been elite against running backs, allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to the position (14.57 FPPG) and boasting the NFL's best red zone defense with a 25% TD rate.
Despite the tough matchup on paper, Skattebo has been a top-8 fantasy RB over the last two weeks, commanding a 52.7% timeshare and proving his versatility with eight receptions and two rushing touchdowns. While L.A. is stingy on touchdowns, they rank 24th in rushing yards allowed (92.3), meaning Skattebo's high-volume role should keep him productive.
