Zach Ertz Injury Update
Zach Ertz managed to overcome his injury and play against the Chiefs in Week 1 but did appear to be at full health. This resulted in a lackluster performance, with the exception of his late touchdown grab.
Although he seemed to escape the game unscathed, he did open the week with a missed practice on Wednesday. However, the sentiment was positive for Thursday.
He returned to practice on Thursday and Friday as expected. Furthermore, he was actually removed from the final injury report.
With DeAndre Hopkins out for the first six weeks and Rondale Moore ruled out again in Week 2, Ertz will have the opportunity to produce a big game, especially now that he's fully healthy. He's a top-12 tight end against the Raiders.
George Kittle Injury Update
UPDATE: George Kittle is out.
After many fantasy managers invested in Geroge Kittle this offseason, he was unfortunately unable to suit up in Week 1.
Kittle missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, setting him up for what seemed like another missed game. However, he was able to participate in practice Friday while receiving a vote of confidence from head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Although he was able to return to practice Friday, it would be surprising for him to play on Sunday given that the timeline of this injury is rarely less than two weeks. There’s also a high rate of re-injury if he rushes back too quickly, which could persuade the team to exercise caution.
Fantasy managers are best to assume he will be out and have a backup option ready to go. While Tyler Kroft would be next in line to start, he is not a viable replacement so you'll need to look outside the 49ers for a tight end.
Brevin Jordan Injury Update
Brevin Jordan was able to suit up in Week 1 versus the Jacksonville Jaguars but did not make much of an impact, finishing with only one catch for five yards.
He was limited in practice on Wednesday following the game, which is not uncommon.
Fortunately, as expected he returned to practice later in the week and was not listed on the final injury report.
Although he'll be active, Jordan remains a player to avoid until he becomes more involved in the offense. O.J. Howard finished with two touchdowns on two receptions, which is unlikely to occur again. Thus, there's reason to believe better days are ahead, but this is not the week to put him in your lineup.
