FanDuel Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup Picks (8/22/16): MLB DFS Advice

Max Petrie highlights the top daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for 8/22/16. These are the top value and sleeper plays for your FanDuel MLB DFS lineups.

Welcome back RotoBallers. It's another week, another dollar on FanDuel with nine games on deck, although Dodgers-Reds is at 12:35 ET and only featured in all-day formats. For the purpose of this article, I will be focusing on the main slate starting at 7:05 ET.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball MLB lineup picks for FanDuel on 8/22/16. As for Vegas insights, the heavy moneyline favorites tonight are the Cubs (-225) and Pirates (-160). The highest scoring totals are Braves-Diamondbacks (9.5), Rockies-Brewers (-9), and Nationals-Orioles (9).

Editor's Note: Purchase a full season NFL Premium Pass (including Draft Kit + DFS Premium), and also get MLB Premium + DFS for free through October. Premium DFS lineup picks, expert lineups, tools and more - seven days a week. You can see screenshots of our NFL Premium and MLB Premium and DFS tools. What are you waiting for?

DFS Lineup Stacks to Target for FanDuel

Rockies versus Jimmy Nelson

Nelson has fallen apart since the All-Star break, posting a 6.43 ERA in seven starts. August has been the main culprit (10.31 ERA/2.13 WHIP). As Nelson struggles to rebound, a date with the Rockies is not what the doctor ordered. The Rox are heating up and their .797 OPS versus RHP is 3rd in baseball. All the normal targets are in play, but know you will need to go cheap at pitching.

Brewers versus Chad Bettis

Safe to say I like the over in this game. Bettis has struggled in the second half as well (6.43 ERA in August) and he oddly enough he hates pitching away from Coors; 12 of his 17 HR have come on the road. The Brew Crew have played good baseball in August, notably Keon Broxton. They're in line for a high-scoring event tonight.

Also Consider: Indians versus Andrew Triggs

DFS Starting Pitchers to Consider for FanDuel

Carlos Carrasco (SP, CLE) - $10,300

It's safe to say Carrasco is ready for the month to turn. He has a 6.66 ERA in four starts and has allowed at least three runs in all of them. The good news is the strikeouts are still there (12.47 K/9 in last three starts) and the Athletics have a .706 OPS versus RHP, 25th in baseball. Let's hope to rough string of starts lowers Carrasco's ownership as he should bounce back tonight.

Zack Godley (SP, ARI) - $6,100

The tourney/bargain barrel pitching turns us to Godley. He was excellent in his last outing versus the Mets (7.1 IP, 2 ER, 40 FD pts) and gets a much easier matchup here. The Braves .682 OPS versus RHP is 29th in baseball and they just traveled across the coast for tonight's game. I like the Diamondbacks to snag Game 1.

DFS Infielders to Consider for FanDuel

Catcher (C)

Gary Sanchez (C, NYY) - $2,900

I don't care that his ownership is hitting the 40% range in some formats. He's simply too good (.361) to pass at this price range. His HR/SB combo plus batting third for the resurgent Yankees makes him a top-five catcher going forward.

First Base (1B)

Chris Carter (1B, MIL) - $3,400

Carter loves hitting at home; 20 of his 28 HR have come at Miller Field and as noted above, Bettis loves giving up the long ball. Carter has two homers in his past three games and is a great price today.

Second Base (2B)

Robinson Cano (2B, SEA) - $3,400

Cano gets another opportunity to prove the Yankees messed up and he loves facing Pineda; he has 2 HR in nine career at-bats versus the righty.

Shortstop (SS)

Chris Owings (SS, ARI) - $2,800

Owings continues to impress since returning from the DL and has a .333 average in the month of August. Mike Foltynewicz has been inconsistent and the Diamondbacks should put up runs tonight.

Third Base (3B)

Yulieski Gurriel (3B, HOU) - $3,000

Gurriel had a relatively small commotion about his promotion in the fantasy realm but don't let that fool you. The 32-year old Cuban is one of their best hitting prospects to come through the ranks and he showed the plate discipline to succeed in his limited at-bats Sunday. I'll take a chance at the unknown commodity before the rest of the DFS world catches on.

DFS Outfielders to Consider for FanDuel

Mookie Betts (OF, BOS) - $4,100

The Red Sox MVP candidate had a quiet weekend but hopefully that lowers ownership for tonight. Betts has crushed in August (1.114 OPS) and has a .538 slugging versus LHP. If you're paying up for OF, this is my choice.

Keon Broxton (OF, MIL) - $3,100

Broxton has been fantastic for the Brewers, hitting three home runs with five steals in the past week. The HR/SB threat makes him a must-own at this price point.

Lonnie Chisenhall (OF, CLE) - $2,900

Chisenhall gets another R/L matchup versus the young Andrew Triggs, a situation he excels. He has a .304/.346/.479 split versus RHP and has a .819 OPS in August.

Also Consider: Gregory Polanco (OF, PIT) - $3,400 and Leonys Martin (OF, SEA) - $2,600
