NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 2/24/24

The 2023-2024 season is approaching the crucial stages with the NHL trade deadline in a week and a half. Who will be buyers and who will be sellers as the race to the Stanley Cup goes full throttle?

The currently live top-three highest implied team totals are: Los Angeles with 4.2, Edmonton with 3.9, and Nashville with 3.7. I will do my best to guide you through this 10-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

John Gibson - DK $6.9K || FD $6.7K

Opponent - Los Angeles Kings

Tonight’s slate isn’t the most ideal when it comes to goalies; however, Gibson has a favorable matchup in terms of save volume. The Kings are the best-value team in Shots Per Goal Per 60. This follows the fact that they are in the top 10 in Shots For Per 60, but the bottom three in Goals For Per 60. They also just lost goal-scorer Viktor Arvidsson right after he came back from injury. This sets up Gibson for a potentially big night if he can keep the puck in front of him. In his last five starts, he has a 2-1 record with a 4.05 Goals Against and a 0.858 Save Percentage. There is always light at the end of the tunnel, right? For Gibson and Ducks fans alike, let's hope.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Kochetkov (DK $8.2K || FD $8.2K)
  • Kahkonen (DK $7K || FD $7K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Nathan MacKinnon - DK $10.3K || FD $10.6K

Opponent - Toronto Maple Leafs

Despite the form of both teams and the form of each team’s goalie, this is going to be a shootout and there is no other possible outcome. Even with Toronto’s positive regression from a defending point of view, they do not have the capability of shutting down Colorado’s top line, which includes center Nathan MacKinnon. In MacKinnon’s last five games, he has two goals, six assists, 40 shots, and four blocked shots.

Yanni Gourde - DK $3.3K || FD $4.6K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

Unlike the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Minnesota Wild have completely forgotten how to play defense. In their last 10 away games, they have been outscored 16 to 29. Excluding splits, in their last 10 games they are in the bottom 10 in Goals Against Per 60. Yanni Gourde and the third line have been the best line for Seattle since they debuted in the league and they have a tremendous line match tonight. Gourde is expected to maintain value and more. Throughout his last five appearances, he has one assist, 11 shots, and six blocked shots.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • O’Reilly (DK $5.9K || FD $6.7K)
  • Pinto (DK $5.7K || FD $5.9K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Filip Forsberg - DK $7.4K || FD $8.7K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

Speaking of bad defenses...tonight San Jose finally makes another appearance. They will play host to Filip Forsberg and the Nashville Predators. San Jose in their last 10 games, excluding splits, are either the worst or the second-worst in Shots Against Per 60, Scoring Chances Against Per 60, and High Danger Chances Against Per 60. They are also in the bottom 10 in Goals Against Per 60.

If not for the stellar play of both Kaapo Kahkonen and Mackenzie Blackwood, the Sharks would be even worse than they are. In their last five home games, they are being outscored 16 to 25 and Nashville is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, outscoring their opponents 20 to 13 in their last five away games. After a few games with decent performances, Forsberg has dropped back into a rut with one goal, one assist, 14 shots, and five blocked shots over the last five games. This is the perfect spot for him to finally break out again.

Jared McCann - DK $5.4K || FD $6.6K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

McCann is quietly putting together quite the campaign this season with 45 points in 55 games so far and has easily been the best all-around player for Seattle since their debut and McCann’s move from Pittsburgh. Over his last five appearances, he has four goals, five assists, and 15 shots. It looks as if his promotion to the top line for Seattle has paid massive dividends for both the player and the team. The Wild’s atrocious defense has already been mentioned above, setting up McCann for another potentially big performance.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Giroux (DK $5.6K || FD $6.9K)
  • Foegele (DK $3.9K || FD $5.4K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Vince Dunn - DK $5K || FD $6.1K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

One player that has not been playing lights out for the Kraken is defenseman Vince Dunn. In Dunn’s most recent five outings, he has one goal, one assist, 11 shots, and five blocked shots. Known for his peripherals, Dunn is underproducing by large margins. However, he is not the only defenseman that is doing this in Seattle. They ALL are. Nevertheless, Dunn was taken in the Expansion Draft for a reason and it was for him to spearhead the blue line for Seattle. In a plus matchup, he will have every opportunity to break the current rut he is in.

Ryan McDonagh - DK $3.5K || FD $4.1K

Opponent - San Jose Sharks

If someone said that Ryan McDonagh would turn into a consistent fantasy producer at the beginning of the season, many would have laughed in their face. Well, now they would be laughing in ours. McDonagh has four assists, six shots, and nine blocked shots in his last five performances. The veteran defenseman is finally showcasing why the Predators acquired him and kept him and at this point, he could be finding himself a new home as the deadline approaches. Going up against San Jose with one of the highest goal totals on the slate, it takes one bounce for McDonagh to quickly surpass value.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP):

  • Doughty (DK $5.3K || FD $5.8K)
  • Faber (DK $5.1K || FD $6K)
