RBC Heritage - PGA DFS Overview

Harbour Town Golf Links

7,121 Yards - Par 71 - Greens: Bermuda - Designer: Pete Dye

This Pete Dye beauty is one of the shortest layouts these pros will face all year. Its lack of length is a refreshing change of pace from the stretched-to-the-max layouts that we routinely see on the PGA Tour schedule. While it may lack length, Harbour Town is by no means a pushover. Very tight, tree-lined fairways often take drivers out of the players hands, forcing them to play strategically off the tee. In true Dye fashion, this is a second-shot golf course and players will be taking aim at miniscule greens (smallest on Tour) that routinely grade-out as some of the toughest to hit on the PGA Tour schedule. These factors make me give almost no weight to the bombers this week and I'll instead be focusing on players that are precise off the tee and accurate on approach.

While it's an area that often goes overlooked, I'll also be giving weight to around the green ability this week. Harbour Town is slightly similar to Augusta National in that we often see the same players perform well here every year, while first-timers can struggle, so I'm giving an even bigger bump than normal to players with strong course history.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for FanDuel (PGA DFS)

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event including DFS lineup picks for DraftKings/FanDuel, betting advice and DFS prop picks.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Dustin Johnson ($12,400)

Wanted to at least note DJ, as he's the only player on this week's FD salary scale priced above $12k. I was intrigued last week at the Masters with Johnson coming is as something of a dark horse. However, his sluggish play continued at Augusta National and ultimately resulted in a missed cut. That fairly lifeless form, coupled with the fact that Harbour Town doesn't suit his strengths anyway, makes DJ merely a contrarian GPP option for me this week.

Webb Simpson ($11,800)

Webb heads to town as the defending RBC Heritage champion and fresh off a T12 at the Masters. Anytime distance isn't a requirement, Webb Simpson shoots to the top of the list of players we want to consider in PGA DFS. This week's Harbour Town layout certainly fits that profile and Simpson's history in the RBC Heritage reflects the terrific fit. The Carolina boy toppled a stacked field in last year's edition of the Heritage and once again feels like a rock-solid option that's perhaps the "safest" play on the board this week.

Patrick Cantlay ($11,600)

As I'm writing this the projected ownership levels for the Heritage are still a bit fuzzy, but I'm interested to get a feel for Patrick Cantlay's popularity after he busted as a popular option last week at the Masters. I wonder how many folks will be eager to hop right back on this week? After a blazing start to the year Cantlay hasn't looked sharp in his last two stroke-play events (MCs at PLAYERS & Masters), though we have to imagine that a big rebound is coming at some point for a player of his caliber. This week is certainly an interesting spot, as he's went T3-T7-T3 in his last three Heritage starts and is a perfect fit for this Harbour Town layout. I'll keep an eye on ownership and won't hesitate to be overweight on him if it seems he's going overlooked.

Collin Morikawa ($11,500)

Perhaps my favorite spend-up option this week, Morikawa's borderline supernatural iron play seems to be tailor made for Harbour Town's teensy greens. A T64 in his RBC Heritage debut last year doesn't necessarily reflect that opinion, but we must remember that Morikawa was coming off a heart-wrenching loss at Colonial the week prior. It's enough for me to give him a pass and load up again this year. He grades out first in this week's field in SG: Approach, T2G, & Ball Striking; while also ranking second in overall Proximity.

Will Zalatoris ($11,100)

Zero chance we were getting through this week's article without talking about Willie Z, right? If you read my RotoBaller articles regularly, then you know Zalatoris is a player that we've been rostering regularly since last year, but his impressive Masters performance has undoubtedly put him on the general golf public's radar. Now that the cat is out of the bag on the young star, I expect his DFS ownership to skyrocket, which will force us to keep a close eye on his projected ownership this week. His expected popularity aside, WZ certainly fits the mold for Harbour Town, as he grades out fifth in SG: Approach over the last 24 rounds.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Matthew Fitzpatrick ($10,900)

The young Englishman is on record as saying that Harbour Town is his favorite layout on the PGA Tour and it makes sense, as the light-hitting Fitzpatrick is able to take advantage of a short game that ranks ninth in the field on this type of golf course. He's posted T14s in two of his last three Heritage starts and has played well throughout 2021, logging a T5 at the Genesis, as well as top-10 results at the API and PLAYERS. Fitz already has multiple international wins under his belt and it feels as though he's on the verge of a breakthrough win in the States.

Abraham Ancer ($10,700)

Abraham Ancer will likely be one of the more popular option on this Heritage slate, but it's tough to argue with rostering him this week. Ancer has looked rock solid as of late, reeling off four consecutive top-25s (well...a T26 last week at the Masters thanks to a questionable two stroke penalty) and gaining strokes on Approach in every one of his 2021 starts. The Mexican's iron performance in last year's RBC Heritage is the stuff of legend, as he gained a mind-blowing 11.8 strokes on Approach in the 2020 edition. In addition to the obvious course fit in Hilton Head, we've seen him post stout results on other Pete Dye designs that are on the PGA Tour schedule.

Corey Conners ($10,600)

I've basically been "all in" on Corey Conners for the last two weeks, so it just doesn't feel right to hop off now. The Canadian has produced excellent results this year (third-place finish at API, seventh at PLAYERS, T8 last week) on the strength of his world-class ball striking. Conners grades out first in this week's field in SG: Ball Striking over the last 24 rounds, while ranking third in SG: Approach. The concern here is his spotty short game...a legitimate worry at Harbour Town. Missed the cut in his first two trips to Hilton Head, but put forth a that's-more-like-it T21 in last year's Heritage.

Si Woo Kim ($10,000)

You gotta love Si Woo...just a couple shots out of the lead at the Masters and decided to break his putter, which forced him to use his three-wood for the last few holes. It was a classic Si Woo moment for a player that has all the physical tools needed to be elite, but sometimes struggles with the frustrating mental side of the game. His skill set certainly fits both this Harbour Town layout - and Pete Dye tracks as a whole - very nicely. Kim posted a runner-up finish in the 2018 edition of the Heritage, as well as a T14 back in 2016. His sometimes-erratic play has found a degree of consistency since he started working with the Claude Harmon last year and I love the GPP upside he brings to the table this week.

Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players

Shane Lowry ($9,900)

The Irishman finally appears to be coming out of his Open Championship stupor. Lowry has looked like his 2019-self lately and heads to Hilton Head with a top-10 at THE PLAYERS and a T21 at the Masters among his last three starts. He's also found some success at Harbour Town, posting a T3 in the 2019 edition of the Heritage. Last year's event was held in June and produced low scoring as a result, but if there are any of the usual April winds blowing this week, Lowry is a sneaky DFS option worth considering and ranks third in this field in SG: Around The Green.

Charley Hoffman ($9,700)

If we're searching for hot iron play this week, then Charley Hoffman shoots to the top of the list. The vet has been on FIRE with the blades as of late and comes into the week ranked second in the field in SG: Approach over the last 24 rounds. A runner-up finish at Valero marked his sixth-straight tournament with a positive SG: Approach mark and he's averaging an elite +5 strokes with the irons over his last five events.

Chris Kirk ($9,300)

Maybe my "most rostered" player of 2021 along with Will Zalatoris, Chris Kirk is yet again in serious consideration for me. This $9.3k price tag (as well as his $7.5k price on DraftKings) feels almost shockingly low, as he's been a consistent producer throughout the year. He grades out ninth in this Heritage field in SG: T2G and has been steady in all facets of the game. Kirk has ran off five-straight made cuts and feels like a go-to salary saving option in this spot.

Michael Thompson ($8,800)

Michael Thompson heads into this week with fairly low name recognition compared to many of the players in this very stout Heritage field. He’s also not gonna pop in most statistical models. However, both Thompson’s recent play and course history at Harbour Town put him squarely in DFS consideration this week. He’s made the cut in each of his last three starts, including a T34 last week at the Masters. In addition to that recent form, the veteran has also played sharp over his last three Heritage starts, making the cut in three straight at Harbour Town, and going T10-T8 in his last two visits to Hilton Head.
