Bears wide receiver (WR) Cordarrelle Patterson is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 7% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Although Cordarrelle Patterson gets listed as a wideout, you can take him as a running-back--even more these days with what's going on in Chicago. The Bears made the news this weekend mostly because of the benching of QB Mitchell Trubisky in favor of QB Nick Foles, but there was another nugget worth knowing: RB Tarik Cohen tore his ACL and he's done for the year.
Patterson has been a hybrid player all of his career, with 38.3 targets and 14.8 carries per season through his eight years as a pro including 2020. Just this season alone he's been targeted only 3 times compared to the 15 times he's carried the ball. He is, plain and simple, Chicago's RB2 with Tarik Cohen down and only behind RB1 David Montgomery.
Montgomery is a very one-sided, pure-rusher tailback. Patterson will take on most passing downs and the eventual rushing attempt here and there. He has rushed the ball at least 4 times in each game this season, so you can expect a little uptick there with more targets going his way too now that he doesn't have to fight Cohen for them. Far from a league winner, but definitely a FLEX option in deeper leagues for the rest of the season.
