Cam Akers is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for running backs. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 12 of the 2024 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers rushed 10 times for 25 yards and caught both of his targets for 11 receiving yards and a touchdown, totaling 11.6 PPR fantasy points in Week 11. It was an odd game script, and the Vikings didn't have much success running the ball against a stout Tennessee Titans defense.

Akers actually looked reasonably serviceable, but Jones has had a bellcow workload for most of the season, and was likely still dealing with a rib injury he picked up in Week 10. Akers doesn't have any standalone value, but he's seemingly wrested control of the RB2 role from Ty Chandler.
Jones has a reputation for being a very injury-prone back, so having Akers as a handcuff if you have Jones on your rosters is probably a good idea. It's likely that Akers would handle a majority of the backfield work were the starter to go down with an injury, as we saw in Week 10.
