Jets wide receiver (WR) Braxton Berrios is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team PPR Leagues
ROSTERED: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: So, the Jets.
It's a mess in the Meadowlands this year, as the injuries are piling up and head coach Adam Gase is the most likely NFL coach to be fired before this week is over.
Among those injuries are a whole host of wide receivers who have missed time. Jamison Crowder. Breshad Perriman. Denzel Mims. That's...the three players who were expected to get most of the snaps at wide receiver.
With them missing, though, there's been an opening for short term value from an unexpected source: Braxton Berrios.
Berrios had six receptions last year for the Jets, but this season he's already at 10 catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Considering he took zero offensive snaps in the opener, that production all coming over the past two games is impressive. Berrios has turned into a reliable target for quarterback Sam Darnold.
Will it last? Probably not, as Berrios doesn't seem to really be a better option than the three injured Jets receivers are, so once those guys start returning to the lineup, expect less from Berrios.
But depending on availability this week, Berrios could have deep-league flex appeal against the Broncos on Thursday night. The short week could offer another chance for the Jets to rest guys up, making Berrios a threat to find the endzone for the third week in a row.
Of course, Berrios is far from a sure thing even if those guys don't play, which is why the recommendation here is limited to deep PPR leagues. But hey, if you need to make a risky move, here's one that may pay off.
