Booms and Busts: Week 6 Fantasy Football Starts and Sits

Geno Smith - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL DFS Picks

Brandon's fantasy football start'em and sit'em for Week 6 lineups in 2022. Sneaky players to start that may boom, and typical starters to disappoint or bust.

Hello, fantasy football friends! Ok, wow...that's a lot of F's. Instead of F's, let's focus on another letter in Week 6...the letter B. B as in Bye weeks. For the first time in 2022, we have teams on byes, as the Lions, Titans, Raiders, and Texans won't be available to fantasy managers this week. B as in Bench. To those of you that have been stashing backup RBs on your bench this season and patiently waiting...congratulations. It's your time to shine thanks to a plethora of injury-driven situations at the RB position this week.

B as in Buffalo vs Kansas City. Last year, these two teams combined for 78 points and 974 yards in a Divisional playoff game that became an instant classic. We can expect more fireworks from the rematch that carries both a tight spread (Buffalo -2.5) and high O/U (54.0). This game contains several fantasy no-brainers - Allen, Mahomes, Kelce, Diggs - but also presents a terrific game environment for some players that are a bit more borderline on a weekly basis such as CEH, Singletary, Davis, Valdes-Scantling. Bottom line...I want as much exposure to this game as possible and will fire up any and all Bills/Chiefs pieces this week.

B as in Brandon's Boos & Woos. A huge shoutout to this article's regular author, Brandon Murchison, who has consistently crushed it with his recommendations this year and will be back driving this train next week!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Week 6 Woos - Fantasy Football Booms

Geno Smith - QB, Seattle Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals

No, you haven't been dreaming, Geno Smith really is the fantasy QB6 through the first five weeks of the season. His average of 8.3 yards per attempt is the exact same as Josh Allen and he stands near the top of the league in passing yards (1,305), completion percentage (75.2), and total TDs (10).

While it's fair to wonder if Smith's current level of play is sustainable over the long term, I'm certainly willing to stay in the saddle with him this week in a home matchup against an Arizona Cardinals defensive unit that's allowed the eighth-most fantasy points in the NFL to the QB position.

Rhamondre Stevenson - RB, New England Patriots @ Cleveland Browns

I told you in the intro that my man Brandon Murchison has been crushing it this year and there's no better proof than Rhamondre Stevenson's inclusion in this article last week. Of course, Stevenson's Week 5 performance of 175 total yards was aided by Damien Harris' early exit with a hamstring injury (does Murchison have a crystal ball?!?), but it's been clear for a while now that the second-year back possesses RB1 talent.

His only limitation is Bill Belichick's insistence on a backfield by committee, but the hooded one has little choice but to turn Stevenson loose this week against a Cleveland Browns run defense that is relinquishing the second-most yards per carry (5.94) in the NFL this season.

Eno Benjamin - RB, Arizona Cardinals @ Seattle Seahawks

Congratulations are in order if you were either smart enough to have Eno Benjamin stashed on your bench or lucky enough to grab him off the waiver wire this week. With both James Conner and Darrel Williams officially ruled out for Week 6, this Arizona backfield has been completely decimated. Benjamin is currently the last man standing and will handle the bulk of the carries and passing work for the Cards this week.

He looked sharp while tallying 53 total yards and a score on 11 touches in emergency relief of Conner & Williams last week. This could be a true coming-out party for Benjamin, as the dual-threat back draws a dream matchup against a Seattle defensive unit that has allowed the league's second-most rushing yards and is legitimately one of the NFL's worst overall defenses.

Romeo Doubs - WR, Green Bay Packers vs. NY Jets

Although Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay passing attack has gotten off to a sluggish start, rookie Romeo Doubs has been a bright spot. Doubs' role has continued to grow thanks to both solid production (22 catches for 213 yards and two TDs) and injuries to the Pack's receiving corps.

With Sammy Watkins still on IR and fellow rookie Christian Watson ruled out for this Week 6 plus matchup against the NY Jets, Doubs' role in the offense should remain rock solid as he continues to gain the confidence of Aaron Rodgers.

George Kittle - TE, San Francisco 49ers @ Atlanta Falcons

Once mentioned in the same breath as Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews, that rarified air seems a long way away for George Kittle's fantasy backers. Kittle has been plagued by injury and low usage in 2022. After missing the first two games of the season, he has been worked back into this Niners offense slowly over the last three weeks with middling results. Many fantasy managers are undoubtedly getting frustrated with Kittle, but I encourage you to stay the course with one of the few players at the always-difficult position with a ceiling that can rival that of Kelce or Andrews.

The Iowa product is trending in the right direction, as he did log season highs in targets (six), catches (five), and receiving yards (47) last week. This Week 6 matchup against an Atlanta squad that ranks bottom-five in the NFL in catches (34), receiving yards (355), and fantasy points (89.0 PPR, 55.0 Standard) allowed to the TE position represents a legit eruption opportunity for the long-dormant Kittle.

Week 6 Boos - Fantasy Football Busts

Russell Wilson - QB, Denver Broncos @ Los Angeles Chargers

While many fantasy managers were excited about Russell Wilson's move to the Denver Broncos, the former Seattle QB has struggled by almost every metric in his new Mile High home. Currently standing as the fantasy QB16 through the season's first five weeks, Wilson has been reluctant to utilize his rushing ability (just 17 rushing attempts this season) and has looked generally uncomfortable en route to a miserable 53.8% completion rate in first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett's system. To make matters worse, the 33-year-old popped up on Denver's injury report this week with a shoulder issue suffered in last week's loss to the Colts.

James Robinson - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts

After a white-hot start to the season, Jacksonville's James Robinson has cooled off significantly in recent weeks. Robinson has combined for just 56 rushing yards across the Jaguars' last two and has had virtually zero impact in the passing game with just two catches for 12 yards since Week 3. The lack of production alone is concerning, but fantasy managers should also be sweating Robinson's shrinking volume, as backfield-mate Travis Etienne has marginally out-touched Robinson over Jacksonville's last two.

He draws a divisional matchup against an Indianapolis Colts squad that has disappointed by almost every measure but that has been extremely stingy against the run. The Colts are allowing just a minuscule 3.30 yards per carry to opposing RBs...the third-best mark in the NFL.

CeeDee Lamb - WR, Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas' alpha receiver has remained impressively productive during Dak Prescott's absence. Despite four-plus games with Cooper Rush at the helm, Lamb comes into a Week 6 clash with the rival Philadelphia Eagles averaging a respectable 14.9 points per game in PPR leagues.

However, there are multiple reasons for concern this week. The Oklahoma alum popped up on the Dallas injury report late this week (never a great sign) after he was a non-participant in practice Friday with a hip issue. While Lamb is still expected to suit up, he'll face a big obstacle in Philly's rugged secondary. The Eagles have been terrific against the pass this season and rank third in the NFL in Pass Defense DVOA.

Tyler Conklin - TE, New York Jets @ Green Bay Packers

The Jets' offseason acquisition was a bargain-basement godsend for fantasy managers over the first three weeks of the season. Conklin displayed a nice rapport with Joe Flacco while posting a sterling 18/140/1 line across New York's first three games. Unfortunately for the tight end and his fantasy backers, that output has plummeted with the return of Zach Wilson to the Jets' lineup. With Wilson at the helm in Gang Green's last two, Conklin's numbers have suffered dramatically, including a putrid 0/0/0 stat line on one target last week against the Miami Dolphins.
