ANALYSIS: The former number-one draft pick appeared to be at a true crossroads in his career when he was waived by the lowly Carolina Panthers less than a month ago.
Mayfield has responded surprisingly well to his release from Carolina. Since joining the Los Angeles Rams in early December, Mayfield has played some of his best football of the year, despite having little time to learn the Rams' offense.
He put forth his best performance of 2022 in a Christmas Day beatdown of the Denver Broncos. Mayfield was razor-sharp in the Week 16 blowout win, completing 24 of 28 pass attempts for 230 yards, two TDs, and no INTs. He's now tossed for 230 or more passing yards in two of his three games as the Rams' starting QB.
Fantasy managers that are vying for a league championship this week may scoff at trusting Mayfield, but the mercurial QB seems to be thriving under the tutelage of L.A.'s Sean McVay. GMs in deeper and 2QB leagues can give Mayfield consideration in a Week 17 matchup against the Chargers.
