Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Victor Caratini Knocks In Two Runs

Chicago Cubs catcher Victor Caratini went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBI on Tuesday evening. Caratini got the start with Willson Contreras getting a day of rest. Caratini's second RBI knocked in Kris Bryant for the game-winning run on a fielder's choice. Caratini doesn't hold fantasy value, as he plays second fiddle to Contreras, […]

Javier Baez Has Pinch-Hit Single Tuesday

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez (groin) had a pinch-hit single Tuesday evening. Baez started the game on the bench after suffering tightness in his right groin on Monday. Baez ended up staying in the game and playing third base, and that is a good sign that he could return to the starting lineup on […]

Jen-Ho Tseng To Start Tuesday For Cubs

The Chicago Cubs have announced that pitcher Jen-Ho Tseng will start Tuesday evening versus the Miami Marlins. Tseng will replace Yu Darvish (flu), who was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Monday. Tseng made his major league debut in 2017 and allowed five runs in six innings. Tseng has been one of the Cubs […]

Giants Showing “Very Strong” Interest In Matt Harvey

Andy Martino of SNY reports that the San Francisco Giants are showing “very strong” interest in New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey, who was designated for assignment on Friday. Martino also mentions the Reds as a possible suitor for Harvey’s services, and both the Mariners and Rangers have been linked to Harvey. The Giants are […]

Jeff Samardzija Blows Up Monday Versus Phillies

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija continues to be off to a rocky start this season. On Monday night versus the Phillies, Samardzija gave up five runs, three hits and three walks while striking out three batters. Samardzija had very little command and was throwing the ball all over the place. He also gave […]

Ian Happ Goes On Power Surge Monday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ broke out with two home runs and five RBI Monday evening versus the Miami Marlins. Happ has had a tough season dealing with strikeouts and low contact, but he showed his potential with Monday’s performance. Happ continues to be on the wrong side of a platoon with Albert Almora and […]

Addison Russell Picks Up A Pair Of Hits Monday

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell went 2-for-4 Monday versus the Miami Marlins. Russell also scored two runs and drove in two runs. Russell got off to an ice-cold start and has picked it up lately, going 12 for his last 40 (.300). Russell is starting to heat up, but he has yet to hit a […]

Ben Zobrist Scores Three Runs On Monday

Chicago Cubs second baseman/outfielder Ben Zobrist continues to hit well for the Cubs early on in the season and finished Monday’s contest 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a walk. Zobrist may see some extra time with Javier Baez leaving Monday’s game early with right groin tightness.

Kris Bryant Falls A Triple Shy Of The Cycle On Monday

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant fell a triple short of the cycle Monday night versus the Miami Marlins. Bryant finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI and a walk. Bryant now has five home runs and 15 RBI to go along with a .290 batting average and .973 OPS. Bryant remains […]

Kyle Hendricks Pitches Eight Strong Innings Monday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks went eight innings Monday evening versus the Miami Marlins. Hendricks only struck out three hitters, but gave up just two runs on six hits. Hendricks now owns a 3.02 ERA and remains a consistent option for quality starts. His next start is lined up for Sunday versus the Chicago […]

Javier Baez Left Monday’s Start With Groin Tightness

Updating an earlier report, Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez left Monday’s contest early with right groin tightness. Baez should be considered day-to-day for now and it is likely that he may sit on Tuesday. Ben Zobrist is the most likely candidate to take over at second base if Baez is forced to miss any […]

Javier Baez Exits Early Monday Evening

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javier Baez (back) left Monday’s game in the top of the seventh inning. Baez was in the field and it appeared that he tweaked something in his back. Baez finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Tommy La Stella replaced Baez at second base. Baez should be considered day-to-day […]

Yu Darvish Lands On The 10-Day Disabled List

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (flu) has landed on the 10-day disabled list with the flu. Darvish has struggled so far with the Cubs and has a 6.00 ERA over his first 30 innings. Darvish has a strong track record and should improve, but his early season results have not been good. Mike Montgomery […]

Kyle Schwarber Continues To Sit Versus Left-Handers

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will sit Monday as the Cubs face left-hander Jarlin Garcia. Despite his strong start to the season, manager Joe Maddon is not ready to trust Schwarber versus left-handers. At some point it would make sense to give Schwarber a chance against left-handers, but for now fantasy owners should be aware […]

Anthony Rizzo Will Not Start Monday

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo will not start Monday evening versus the Miami Marlins. After a rough April, Rizzo has been off to a nice start in May. With a left-hander on the mound Monday and coming off of an extra-inning game Sunday, it makes sense to give Rizzo his rare day off. Victor […]

Johnny Cueto Has Strained Elbow, Will Rest For Six Weeks

After meeting with Dr. James Andrews, it has been determined that San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) has a strained elbow and not a tear. Dr. Andrews recommended that Cueto rest for six weeks. Initial reports had suggested that Cueto may have had to have Tommy John surgery, which would have cost him […]

Willson Contreras Leading Off Sunday Night

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras will be in the No. 1 spot Sunday night versus the Cardinals. Contreras has made two starts at the leadoff spot in his career and is 3-for-9 with a home run. Manager Joe Maddon continues to shuffle his lineup on a daily basis and there shouldn’t be too much to […]

Mac Williamson Not Expected Back For A While

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mac Williamson (concussion) is expected to remain sidelined for a while. Manager Bruce Bochy said on Sunday that Williamson “more than likely” will have to go to the minor leagues for rehab as he has been out for two weeks due to a concussion. It’s a shame as Williamson was coming […]

Evan Longoria Will Rest Sunday

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria will rest Sunday versus the Atlanta Braves. Longoria has been useful in his first season with the Giants and owns a .248 batting average with seven home runs and 19 RBI. Pablo Sandoval will replace Longoria at third base and bat fifth Sunday.

Buster Posey Will Sit Sunday

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will rest Sunday afternoon versus the Atlanta Braves. Posey is having a strong season hitting .304 with a pair of home runs and 14 RBI. Nick Hundley will replace Posey and bat fourth. Hundley in limited action has hit everything in sight and has a .340 batting average with […]

Anthony Rizzo Continues To Enjoy May

After an April to forget, Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit his third home run in the past four games on Saturday. Rizzo is now 6-for-19 in the month of April with three home runs with three runs and four RBI in April. Rizzo is known as a very streaky hitter, but when he’s […]

Brandon Morrow Blows His First Save On Saturday

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow gave up two runs on Saturday to blow his first game of the season. Morrow had not allowed a run in 10 innings coming into Saturday's performance and is now 7-for-8 in save opportunities with a 1.64 ERA. His role as the Cubs closer remains secured.

Ben Zobrist Leading Off Again On Saturday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Ben Zobrist will once again be in the No. 1 spot for the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Zobrist was first in the lineup Friday over Albert Almora. Zobrist is replacing Almora in the outfield Saturday and manager Joe Maddon continues to find at-bats for Zobrist with Ian Happ struggling and Zobrist’s ability […]

Carson Fulmer Can’t Get Through Four Innings Friday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carson Fulmer struggled to get out of the fourth inning Friday evening versus the Minnesota Twins. Fulmer went 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs (four earned), two walks and struck out six batters. Fulmer allowed four home runs on Friday and now owns an ugly 5.02 ERA. His […]

Yolmer Sanchez Picks Up Three Hits On Friday

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yolmer Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored Friday night. Sanchez quietly has 17 RBI on the year to go with a .287 batting average, and he is worth a look in deeper leagues.

Leury Garcia Hits Home Run Friday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Leury Garcia went 2-for-4 Friday with a home run. Garcia has done well filling in for Avisail Garcia (hamstring) and now is hitting .273 with eight RBI. Garcia offers more value to the White Sox than he does for fantasy owners and is best suited on the waiver wire for now.

Jose Abreu Hits His Seventh Home Run On Friday

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu went 3-for-5 Friday and hit his seventh home run of the season. Abreu also picked up three RBI. Abreu needed a big game, as he’s been in a bit of a funk lately. Fantasy owners are sure hoping that this performance will get Abreu going, and he will […]

Jose Quintana Only Lasts Four Innings On Friday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana suffered the loss Friday evening versus the Cardinals. Quintana only lasted four innings and gave up three unearned runs on five hits, four walks and struck out four batters. Quintana suffered his second loss and now has a 4.99 ERA. He will look for better results Wednesday versus the […]

Yoan Moncada Exits Early With Hamstring Tightness On Friday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada has left Friday’s game with hamstring tightness. Moncada left Wednesday’s game with hamstring tightness and sat out Thursday. Moncada should be considered day-to-day and finished the game 0-for-2 with a walk. He was replaced by Adam Engel.

Hector Santiago Will Start Saturday

The Chicago White Sox have announced that left-hander Hector Santiago will start Saturday versus the Twins. It will be Santiago’s second start, as he has mainly pitched out of the bullpen. For the season, Santiago has a 3.48 ERA in 20 2/3 innings. He is nothing more than a streaming option in the deepest of […]
