Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Matt Davidson Picks Up A Pair Of Doubles Tuesday

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, one run, two RBI and a walk Tuesday. Davidson had been struggling coming into Tuesday and is a boom-or-bust candidate on a nightly basis. Aside from home runs, Davidson does not provide much value.

Tyler Chatwood Only Lasts Five Innings Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood continued his rough season by giving up four runs (three earned) over five innings versus the Brewers on Tuesday. Chatwood also allowed five hits, two walks and struck out five. Chatwood has had major control issues, and allowing only two walks was a positive. He still has a long […]

Chris Stratton Goes Seven Innings In Loss Tuesday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Chris Stratton picked up a quality start Tuesday, but it was not enough for him to get the win. Stratton allowed four hits, three runs, three walks and struck out three Tuesday versus the Marlins. Stratton suffered the loss and is now 7-4 with a 4.56 ERA. Stratton’s next start […]

Yu Darvish Doesn’t Rule Out Return Before All-Star Break

After throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) met with the media and said that he would not rule out a return before the All-Star break, but he will take his time recovering due to past injuries. Darvish has had a rocky start in his first season with the […]

Yu Darvish Throws Bullpen Session On Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) threw about 31 pitches Tuesday during his bullpen session. Darvish remains without a timetable but has been playing catch over the past week. How he feels after Tuesday will likely give the team a clearer timeline for his return. Mike Montgomery continues to do a good job filling […]

Mac WIlliamson Sitting Tuesday

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mac Williamson will sit Tuesday versus the Marlins. WIlliamson has really struggled since returning from a concussion and has four hits over his last 19 at-bats. Hunter Pence will replace WIlliamson and bat seventh. Pence is 4-for-13 since returning from a thumb injury. WIlliamson has enough upside to remain owned and […]

Kyle Schwarber Sitting Tuesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will rest Tuesday. The Cubs face Brewers starter Chase Anderson and Schwarber is hitless in his career versus him in 14 at-bats. Ben Zobrist will take the place of Schwarber and bat fifth Tuesday. Zobrist has been having a nice season and is worthy of consideration in DFS Tuesday.

Lucas Giolito Picks Up Another Loss

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito continued his struggles on Monday. Over four innings, Giolito allowed four hits, four runs, four walks and struck out three over five innings. Giolito is now 4-7 with a 7.09 ERA. Giolito will look for better results on Saturday versus the Tigers.

Madison Bumgarner Gives Up Four Runs Monday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings Monday versus the Marlins. Bumgarner also allowed six hits, one walk and struck out three. It was his second start since missing the entire season with a finger injury. Bumgarner has given up six runs and has only struck out six […]

Yu Darvish Plays Catch Monday, Will Throw Bullpen Tuesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) played catch on Monday. His next step will be to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. Darvish is still without a timetable to return and more may be known on his return after Tuesday’s results. Continue to keep him stashed in all leagues.

White Sox Won’t Have Eloy Jimenez Skip Triple-A

Chicago White Sox outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez will not go from Double-A to the big leagues. General manager Rick Hahn said Monday that Jimenez will definitely play in Triple-A. Jimenez has clearly outplayed Double-A pitching and is hitting .321 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI. Jimenez should be promoted to Triple-A shortly and is […]

Johnny Cueto Throws 45 Pitches Monday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Johnny Cueto (elbow) threw 45 pitches off of the bullpen mound Monday and said that he felt good. Cueto threw as hard as he would have if he was warming up for a game. The next step will be to see how Cueto feels and he will either throw a […]

Avisail Garcia To Begin Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Chicago White Sox outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) will report to Triple-A Charlotte for his rehab assignment Tuesday. Garcia has been sidelined since April 24 with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Garcia has hit .233 on the year with one home run and should resume his everyday role in the outfield once he returns.

Jeff Samardzija Throws 40 Pitches On Monday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) threw 40 pitches Monday off the mound. He threw from both the windup and stretch. Samardzija said “this is the best I've felt all year.” They are encouraging words from Samardzija, who has had a disastrous season with a 6.56 ERA and 1.68 WHIP. Samardzija expects to […]

Joe Panik Will Sit Monday

The San Francisco Giants will sit second baseman Joe Panik on Monday. Panik has been in a slump since returning from a thumb injury and has just two hits over his last 23 at-bats. Alen Hanson will replace Panik and bat eighth. Hanson is quietly having a nice season and is six for his last […]

Kyle Schwarber Out Friday Versus Pirates

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber will sit Friday versus the Pirates. It’s a routine day off for Schwarber, who is hitting the ball very well lately. The slugger is hitting .256 with 11 home runs and 28 RBI and has bounced back in a nice way after struggling in 2017. Schwarber should be owned in […]

Kris Bryant To Hit First Friday

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant will hit first Friday versus the Pirates. It’s a bit of a bold move by manager Joe Maddon. Maddon is known to shake up the lineup pretty much every day, and it will be interesting to see if this is a one-time deal for Bryant. It'll mean more at-bats […]

Addison Russell Could Return This Weekend

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) will take batting practice Friday and if everything goes well, he could be used as a pinch-hitter. Russell has been out since Sunday with an injured middle finger, but has swung the bat Wednesday and Thursday. Russell also took grounders Thursday. It appears that Russell will return this weekend, […]

Anthony Rizzo Homers In Back-To-Back Games

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit his second home run in as many days Thursday versus the Phillies. Rizzo finished the game 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Rizzo is now hitting .253 with 10 home runs and 42 RBI.

Brandon Morrow Picks Up The Save Thursday

Chicago Cubs closer Brandon Morrow picked up save No. 15 on Thursday versus the Phillies. Morrow struggled in a tie game on Wednesday but bounced back on Thursday. Morrow has had a strong season, his first as a closer, and he should be owned in all formats.

Tyler Chatwood Continues To Have Control Issues

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood walked seven batters Thursday. Over 4 2/3 innings, Chatwood allowed four hits and struck out six all while allowing only one run. Chatwood is now walking 8.64 batters per nine innings and should remain on the waiver wire until he can control his walks.

Addison Russell Takes Batting Practice Prior To Thursday’s Game

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) took part in batting practice Thursday and also was on the field taking grounders. Russell has been absent since leaving Sunday’s game with a middle finger injury and remains day-to-day with a chance to play this weekend versus the Pirates.

Tim Anderson Will Sit Out Thursday Afternoon Versus The Twins

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson will rest Thursday versus the Twins. Anderson is having a nice season with 11 home runs, 25 RBI and 13 stolen bases to go along with a .242 batting average. Jose Rondon will replace Anderson in the lineup and bat seventh. Rondon can be avoided Thursday.

Willson Contreras Will Sit Out Thursday

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras is absent from Thursday’s lineup. It’s just a day off for Contreras. The backstop has hit .277 with four home runs and 22 RBI this season and remains one of the better options at the catcher position. Chris Gimenez will be behind the dish Thursday and bat eighth.

Jason Heyward Sitting Thursday, Ian Happ Will Start

A day after being the Cubs hero, outfielder Jason Heyward will be off Thursday. Heyward has been on fire lately with a .321 batting average with 11 RBI over his last 56 at-bats. Ian Happ will replace Heyward in the lineup and bat seventh. Happ is in a cold streak currently and could be avoided […]

Addison Russell Remains Sidelined

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell (finger) remains out of Thursday’s lineup. Russell hasn’t appeared in a game since exiting on Sunday with a middle finger injury. Russell took swings on Wednesday and felt good. It looks like Russell will avoid the disabled list and could return this weekend. Javier Baez will once again be at […]

Tim Anderson Steals Another Base

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson swiped his 13th base on Wednesday versus the Minnesota Twins. Anderson also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Anderson is now hitting .242 with 11 home runs and 25 RBI. He remains one of the more underrated power and speed shortstops in the game.

Jason Heyward Plays Hero Wednesday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward played the hero for the Cubs on Wednesday evening. Heyward ended the game with a walk-off grand slam to give the Cubs a 7-5 victory. Heyward has heated up lately and manager Joe Maddon has been hitting him in the No. 2 spot. He is more valuable in DFS while […]

Anthony Rizzo Hits Another Home Run

Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo picked up his ninth home run of the season Wednesday versus the Phillies. Rizzo finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored. Rizzo got off to a slow start this season and is finally coming around. Rizzo is now hitting .251 and has knocked in […]

Jose Quintana Shines In No-Decision

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana suffered a tough no-decision Wednesday night versus the Phillies. Quintana was taken out with two on and two out in the fifth inning in a 3-0 game. Reliever Steve Cishek, who replaced Quintana, gave up a three-run homer to Aaron Altherr on his first pitch. It was a shame […]
