Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

5043 articles

You won't find a bigger Cubs fan than myself. Aside from my love of fantasy sports, which includes MLB, NFL and NBA, I own my own animal care business. I graduated from Columbia College in Chicago and currently reside in Chicago, IL. My love of fantasy sports started for me in the early 2000's and I have steadily been active with the same group of friends year in and year out for every league in baseball, basketball and football. I am hoping to help all RotoBaller members with any questions they may have. I consider myself an expert with minor league prospects, as it is a love of mine. I hope to give the best advice I can to the RotoBaller world!

Magneuris Sierra Has Caught Fire

Miami Marlins outfield prospect Magneuris Sierra has now hit safely in nine of his last 10 games for Triple-A New Orleans. Sierra has five multi-hit games over that stretch and has now raised his batting average to .256 after a poor start. Sierra was the main piece that the Marlins got in return for Marcell […]

Steven Duggar Has Heated Up In Triple-A

San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Steven Duggar has heated up over his past 10 games. Over that span, the outfielder is 19-for-45 with nine runs scored, one home run, eight RBI and two stolen bases. Duggar is the Giants top outfield prospect and is expected to debut in 2018. Unfortunately for Duggar, Giants outfielder Gorkys […]

Max Fried Dominates On Thursday

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Max Fried struck out 11 batters over seven innings on Thursday for Triple-A Gwinnett. Fried also allowed three hits, one run and didn't allow a walk. Fried is now 2-3 with a 4.23 ERA in seven starts with 39 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings. He remains one of the better pitching […]

Luis Urias Picks Up Two More Hits

San Diego Padres middle infield prospect Luis Urias picked up two more hits on Thursday for Triple-A El Paso. Urias, 21, remains one of the better pure hitting prospects and is also a strong defender. Urias is now hitting .266 with six home runs and 21 RBI over 218 at-bats. The Padres currently have Freddy […]

Alex Verdugo Is On Fire In Triple-A

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Alex Verdugo has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. Verdugo has never been a huge power hitter, but he can drive the ball to all fields and has great contact skills. Verdugo is now hitting .323 with four home runs and 24 RBI. […]

Austin Hays To Remain In A Walking Boot

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Austin Hays (ankle) will remain in a walking boot for at least two weeks. Hays quickly arrived in the big leagues last season after starting the season in Advanced-A ball and then crushing Double-A pitching. Hays struggled in spring training and began the year with Triple-A Bowie. Hays consistently hit for […]

Franklin Barreto Continues To Struggle In Triple-A

Oakland Athletics shortstop prospect Franklin Barreto has been off to a sluggish start this season for Triple-A Nashville. Barreto is hitting .232 with seven home runs and 21 RBI. Barreto has had two stints in the big leagues this year and is hitless in six at-bats. Barreto is still just 22 years old and was […]

Kyle Tucker Has Another Three-Hit Game

Houston Astros outfield prospect Kyle Tucker had his second three-hit game in three days for Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday. Tucker remains one of the better offensive prospects in the game, but will likely remain in Triple-A as the Astros have no holes on their current roster that would give Tucker everyday at-bats. Tucker is currently […]

Nick Senzel Is Heating Up

Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Nick Senzel is beginning to heat up after missing most of May with vertigo. Senzel has now hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games. Senzel is now hitting .289 with three home runs, 16 RBI and seven stolen bases for Triple-A Louisville. The Reds have Eugenio Suarez at […]

Willie Calhoun Starting To Heat Up

Texas Rangers outfield prospect Willie Calhoun is beginning to heat up after a slow start to his season for Triple-A Round Rock. Calhoun is hitting .424 over his last 33 at-bats and that includes back-to-back three-hit games. Calhoun was the prized piece that the Rangers acquired for starting pitcher Yu Darvish last year and many […]

Evan Longoria Is Out Indefinitely

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) is out indefinitely after suffering a fractured fifth metacarpal bone on his left hand. It’s the same injury that sidelined teammate Madison Bumgarner earlier this year. Longoria will fly with the team to Los Angeles and meet with Dr. Stephen Shin to decide if he will get […]

Andrew McCutchen Hits Second Home Run In As Many Days

San Francisco Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen picked up his eighth home run of the season Thursday versus the Marlins. McCutchen has now hit a home run in back-to-back games and is beginning to heat up. McCutchen is now hitting .340 over his last 50 at-bats. Owners who were patient with McCutchen are beginning to get […]

Hunter Strickland Picks Up A Blown Save Thursday

San Francisco Giants closer Hunter Strickland picked up the blown save on Thursday. Strickland gave up an unearned run and one hit over one inning. Strickland still owns a 2.05 ERA and is safely entrenched as the Giants closer, although if he falters at all the Giants could consider looking at Mark Melancon in the […]

Dereck Rodriguez Throws Well On Thursday

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Dereck Rodriguez allowed seven hits, two runs and struck out four batters over 6 2/3 innings Thursday versus the Marlins. It was his longest and best outing of his young career. Rodriguez at the moment doesn’t hold much value aside from streaming and is lined up to the face the […]

Carlos Rodon Goes Five Innings On Thursday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Carlos Rodon went five innings Thursday versus the Indians. Rodon threw 100 pitches on the day and allowed two runs, two hits, three walks and struck out four. Rodon hasn’t looked bad since his return and his ability to strike out batters is a big plus for fantasy owners. The […]

Evan Longoria Exits Early On Thursday

San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) left Thursday’s contest after being hit on the back of his left hand. Longoria stayed in and ran the bases, but then was replaced by infielder Alen Hanson. If Longoria is to miss any time, Hanson is worth a look in deeper leagues. More should be known […]

Yoan Moncada Sits Thursday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada will rest Thursday afternoon versus the Indians. Moncada is only hitting .195 over his last 118 at-bats with three home runs and three stolen bases. Moncada has 20/20 potential, but needs to limit his strikeouts. Yolmer Sanchez will slide over from third base to second base Thursday.

Tim Anderson Gets Thursday Off

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson will get a day off Thursday. Anderson has just six hits over his last 41 at-bats. Anderson is only hitting .230, but he does have 11 home runs and 14 stolen bases. He is a good source at the shortstop position for both power and speed and should be […]

Giants Expected To Announce The Signing Of Joey Bart

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the San Francisco Giants will announce the signing of their first-round, pick Joey Bart, in the next two days. Bart was the second overall pick in this year's draft and is a strong defensive catcher with power. Bart is coming out of college and even with […]

Nate Jones Will Be Shut Down For Six Days

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Nate Jones (arm) will be shut down for six days after landing on the disabled list on Wednesday. Jones got an MRI and the results came back good. The White Sox are hoping that with rest, Jones can return to the team quickly. More will be know depending on how […]

Brandon Belt Could Return June 18

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (appendicitis) will appear in a couple of rehab games and is expected to return during the Giants homestand that starts on June 18. Belt is off to the best start in his career with a .307 batting average and 11 home runs to go with 31 RBI. He […]

Mike Montgomery Suffers A Tough Loss Wednesday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Mike Montgomery turned in another strong performance Wednesday versus the Brewers. Montgomery went six innings in which he allowed two hits, one run, one walk and struck out four. Montgomery has done an excellent job replacing Yu Darvish (triceps) in the rotation. Over his last four starts, Montgomery has thrown 23 […]

Matt Davidson Sits Wednesday

Chicago White Sox designated hitter Matt Davidson will sit Wednesday. Davidson was in a bit of a slump prior to Tuesday’s game when he hit a pair of doubles. Davidson is likely to return to the lineup Thursday. Outfielder Daniel Palka will be the designated hitter Wednesday and bat fourth. Palka is having a nice […]

Mac Williamson On The Bench For Second Straight Game

San Francisco Giants outfielder Mac Williamson will sit for a second consecutive game Wednesday. Williamson has struggled since returning from the disabled list, but manager Bruce Bochy said that Williamson would be in the lineup every day when he was activated. Williamson is stuck in a 7-for-31 slump and the hope is that two days […]

Nate Jones Lands On Disabled List, Juan Minaya Recalled

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Nate Jones (arm) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a pronator muscle strain. Jones has struggled this year with a 4.01 ERA and four saves. There is currently not a timetable for Jones’ return, but he is expected to miss more than the minimum 10 days. Pitcher […]

Carl Edwards Jr. Throws Successful Bullpen Session

Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. (shoulder) felt good after throwing a bullpen session on Tuesday. It was the first time Edwards had thrown since being placed on the disabled list. Edwards doesn’t have a return date, but he is trending in the right direction. Edwards offers owners holds, strikeouts and good ratios.

Yu Darvish Feels Good After Bullpen Session

Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon said that starting pitcher Yu Darvish (triceps) came out of Tuesday’s bullpen session feeling good. Darvish is still without a timetable and Maddon said “the next step is to map out the next moment.” Mike Montgomery will continue to replace Darvish in the rotation.

James Shields Bounces Back Nicely Versus The Indians

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher James Shields bounced back Tuesday after giving up seven runs in his previous outing. Shields went seven innings versus the Indians and allowed four hits and one run. He also struck out two in the game. Shields is nothing more than a streaming option in deeper formats and will face […]

Yoan Moncada Knocks One Out Of The Park Tuesday

Chicago White Sox second baseman Yoan Moncada led off Tuesday’s game with a home run. Moncada finished 1-for-4 and struck out twice. Moncada had been in a funk coming into Tuesday’s contest, as he had just 22 hits over his past 110 at-bats. Moncada will have his ups and downs in his first full year, […]

Yolmer Sanchez Hits A Home Run Tuesday

Chicago White Sox third baseman Yolmer Sanchez hit the second of back-to-back home runs to start off Tuesday’s contest versus the Indians. Sanchez finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk and is now hitting .271 with four home runs and 28 RBI. Sanchez is worth consideration in AL-only leagues.
