Matt Chapman Returns To Lineup As DH
Matt Chapman (shoulder) was the team's designated hitter in a spring training game versus the Reds on Monday. Chapman went 1-for-3, which included roping a double to the gap, before being lifted from the game. Chapman had offseason shoulder surgery and the A's are slowly working him back into shape, with manager Bob Melvin saying Chapman will serve as the DH early in the week and return to the field on Thursday. Too many strikeouts cratered Chapman's batting average last season, but his other metrics remained elite with an 18 percent barrel rate, 93.6 mph average exit velocity and a 51.7 percent hard-hit rate. If Chapman gets the strikeouts under control, he would be a steal at his ADP of 115th overall.
