Cubs Could Land Cole Hamels Thursday
Cole Hamels, and a deal could even go down as soon as Thursday, according to sources. The Cubs don't have a deep farm system, but the Rangers really just want to get out from Hamels' contract and get some prospects in return. The Cubs are willing to take on around $4 million of the $14.2 million owed to Hamels. The veteran left-hander hasn't been very good this year and has been atrocious in his last five starts (10.23 ERA), but Tyler Chatwood continues to walk hitters with regularity and Yu Darvish has no timetable for a return. A change of scenery could do Hamels some good both in real life and in fantasy.
