Rory McIlroy made his first official PGA start of the 2018 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but ended with a missed cut as he failed to make it through Saturday's secondary cut. After opening with a Thursday 68, it seemed like McIlroy was primed for a good finish, but a Friday 74 low-lighted by a five-putt on the Par 4 fifth ended his chances. McIlroy was in good form entering the tournament after finishing second in the Dubai Desert Classic just two weeks earlier. He'll try to regain that form at the Genesis Open, where he will debut a new putter to help him on the poa annua greens. “I have quite not a lot of loft in my putter, especially for these greens,” McIlroy said. “Just trying to give it a bit more launch, that was really it. It’s a very, very minor change but something that the guy suggested down there.”--cmangano
