NBA Waiver Wire: Shallow League Adds for Week 18

It's Week 18 – We're heading into the all star break, and the injuries keep piling up around the league. Working the waiver wire successfully in these next few weeks are key to making a strong run in the postseason.   Here are some interesting adds that can help you with your season goals.

This year, we're tossing out our old convention of separating waiver wire posts into positions, and instead, we're separating them into of league -- standard, shallow, deep, etc. The NBA is trending to positionless basketball, so we at RotoBaller should too.

For shallow (8-10 team) league adds, we use a general rule of thumb of an ownership rate of under 65% on Yahoo. All position eligibility based on Yahoo leagues.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including NBA Writer of the Year, Best NFL Series, MLB Series, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Shallow League Adds for Week 18

Michael Beasley, SF/PF

Ownership: 61%

12.7 PPG / 5.3 REB / 1.3 AST / .511 FG%

It's officially the Michael Beasley era in New York. Unfortunately for NBA fans, Kristaps Porzingis went down with an ACL injury and will be out for the remainder of the season. Tough blow for fantasy owners everywhere but look no further than this guy right here who has been huge for the Knicks when Porzingis has missed games this season. He has terrific upside for the remainder of the season as he is now one of the top scoring options on this team. He's managed to hit 30+ minutes in his two starts and it seems that he should be poised to maintain those minutes as the season goes on.

Beasley had a monster game against the Raptors on Sunday, putting up 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. In his two games so far without Kristaps, he's averaging 18.5 points, 10 rebounds all while shooting very efficiently at 62.5 percent. If you were an owner of Kristaps you'll miss his blocks and threes as Beasley will not be able to provide that for you on a consistent basis. Michael Beasley is still expected to start for the rest of the season, so as the season progresses look for him to provide a steady output in scoring and rebounds.

Tomas Satoransky, PG/SG

Ownership: 27%

6.0 PPG / 2.4 REB / 3.0 AST  / .522 FG%

With John Wall dealing with a knee injury and expected to comeback mid march, Tomas Satoransky has been a key piece in the Wizards staying afloat in the Eastern Conference. In the month of February, he's been averaging close to 30 minutes a contest and averaging 13.2 points to go along with 4.5 assists. At first it did seem he would split time with Tim Frazier at the point guard spot, but it seems with the recent success of this team without Wall, they're sticking with Tomas getting heavy minutes.

He had his best game this past Saturday against the Bulls, playing 37 minutes and putting up a stat line of 25 points, 6 assists, 2 steals and hitting 5 out of 6 threes. The most impressive feat of that performance was his efficiency, as he shot 10-12 from the field and 5-6 from the line. If you need a player to boost your team into that highly coveted playoff spot, I would look no further than this Wizards guard. He's been playing heavy minutes as of late and has become a reliable source for steals as well.

Josh Jackson, SG/SF

Ownership 53%

11.1 PPG/ 4.1 REB / 0.5 BLK / .405 FG%

All season there's been different hype around a Suns player for fantasy value every week, so I can understand why Jackson is still only a 53 percent ownership. A lot of these Suns player go through phases, so it's important to pick them up during these streaks before it's too late. Josh Jackson in the month of February has been a monster and should be owned across all formats. He's averaging 18.4 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks per game, while shooting a decent 46 percent from the field.

Albeit, their leading scorer Devin Booker has missed the past 4 games with a hip injury, but Josh started this impressive run even while Booker was still in the lineup. Josh is a very streaky player, he can give you huge nights where he fills the stat sheet up like he did against the Nuggets on Saturday posting 20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks or have nights where he can't seem to find a bucket. With a true point guard in Elfrid Payton running the offense, Josh Jackson may be in prime position to continue being a reliable fantasy option for the rest of the season.
