Trevor Rosenthal Wants More Saves

After saving 45 games for the Cardinals in 2014, Trevor Rosenthal set a Cardinals record by locking down 48 more in 2015. He already has his sights set higher, saying "you always want to beat your own record."

The life of a young closer on a perennially-contending team is good, as can be seen in Rosenthal's gaudy numbers since he started collecting saves late in 2013. His 93 saves over the past two seasons is tops in the majors. Rosenthal lowered his ERA almost a full run from the previous season (down to 2.10) thanks to multiple dominant strings--he allowed only one or zero runs in four of six months. He reeled his walk rate in, bringing it back down into the 20's after it spiked with 42 walks in 2014. Fantasy owners shouldn't bank on Rosenthal striking out more than 100 batters again after consecutive seasons in the 80's, but he still possesses the skills to do so. The closer talent pool is deep this year, with Rosenthal rounding out our top 10 closers. At 25 years old, chances are very good he has yet to hit his peak.
