New Mexico Starting Quarterback Jack Layne Out for the Season

New Mexico quarterback Jack Layne (undisclosed) is out for the season after undergoing surgery, according to head coach Jason Eck. Layne started 13 games for the Lobos last season, completing 213 of his 327 attempts for 2,486 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He was projected to start again in 2026, but obviously, that is no longer in play. Eck said he has not named a starting quarterback yet, and he plans to play multiple signal callers to open the season in the Week 1 matchup with Central Michigan. With Layne out, Oregon transfer Luke Moga could be in the driver's seat to eventually capture the QB1 job.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller
