Mitch Griffis in the QB1 Role Against Alabama
East Carolina has named quarterback Mitch Griffis the starter for the season-opening game against Alabama in Week 1, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Griffis began his college career at Wake Forest in 2020, appearing in 23 games over four years. He did not play in 2024 and was the QB3 at Texas Tech in 2025. Overall, he has tallied 2,314 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Needless to say, he's been around college football for a long time, and he'll begin his Pirates career with a tough test ahead of him in Tuscaloosa against what is expected to be one of the top secondaries in college football. ECU quarterback Emory Williams, who transferred from Miami, is also expected to see playing time in the matchup with the Crimson Tide.
