Keelon Russell Expected to be Named Alabama's QB1
On3's Chris Low expects Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer to name sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell the team's starter by "early next week." The talented signal-caller has been competing with veteran Austin Mack this spring and fall, but it appears he is close to wrapping up the position battle. Russell was the No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2025 out of Duncanville, Texas, and has a limitless ceiling due to his high-level arm talent and mobility. Last season, he served as the team's QB3 behind Mack and Ty Simpson, completing 11 of his 15 passing attempts for 143 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Russell will have no shortage of wide receiver talent to work with and could lead one of the SEC's top passing offenses right away. Fortunately for Russell and Alabama, the Crimson Tide don't face a daunting road test until the October 17 matchup in Knoxville against Tennessee. Matchups against East Carolina and Kentucky to start the year should give him time to get settled into action.
