Drew Allar 2026 Fantasy Football Outlook: Buried Deep on QB Depth Chart for Developmental Rookie Season
Some were surprised that the Pittsburgh Steelers made former Penn State quarterback Drew Allar a third-round pick in April's NFL Draft. However, general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike McCarthy clearly believe Allar could be a long-term solution to the Steelers' franchise quarterback void. Though Allar's best moments in Happy Valley showcased a rocket arm and mobility for his "6-foot-5" frame, he certainly struggled with accuracy (63.2% completion) and efficiency (7.4 yards per attempt) over the course of a college career that featured 1,002 total pass attempts. Pittsburgh's plan became even more evident in May, when the team re-signed Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal. Veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph and 2025 fifth-round pick Will Howard are also returning in 2026 to compete for the backup job. It seems that if the Steelers' season goes according to plan, Allar won't play any meaningful snaps in 2026. Pittsburgh has repeatedly said they're reworking his mechanics and "uninstalling" - a direct quote from McCarthy - everything he learned at Penn State. In redraft formats, that means Allar isn't worth any consideration as a draft selection, and dynasty managers will have to be patient with a player whose college career leaves an ambiguous forecast for his pro future.
