Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 9:
D.J. Moore, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore (hip, groin) was absent during Wednesday's practice session. Unsurprisingly, Moore sat out practice to begin the week while he deals with a few nagging injuries. This seems more like a rest day than anything else for the veteran wideout.
The Bears are banged up right now with Rome Odunze (heel), Luther Burden III (concussion), and Olamide Zaccheaus (knee) all missing Wednesday's practice as well.
These seem like minor issues for Moore, so he figures to be ready for the Week 9 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. He could have an expanded role if some of his fellow wideouts are unable to play.
Alvin Kamara, RB, New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (ankle) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. Kamara played a season-low 51 percent of the offensive snaps during last week's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It's unclear if that was because the game was a blowout or because Kamara was battling this ankle issue. It doesn't sound like something that is going to cause Kamara to sit out in Week 9.
However, fantasy managers should check back on Thursday and Friday for more updates. Devin Neal (ankle) would be asked to take over as the lead back if Kamara sits out against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend.
Alec Pierce, WR, Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce continued to flash his big-play ability in a 38-14 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 8. Pierce caught two of his five targets for 69 yards in the blowout win, finishing second on the Colts in receiving yards behind only Michael Pittman Jr.
The veteran wideout has been an explosive pass-catcher this season, catching 18 passes for 386 scoreless yards in six games, good for an impressive 21.4 yards-per-catch average, which leads the league.
The only thing missing from a fantasy perspective is Pierce's lack of touchdowns, an issue that he will hope to remedy on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9. Pierce will be a high-end WR4 for that matchup.
Terry McLaurin, WR, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin (quad) has been ruled out for Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks, according to JP Finlay of NBC4 Sports. McLaurin re-injured the quad that caused him to miss four consecutive games during Monday night's loss to the Chiefs.
It's not great to see the 30-year-old wideout already ruled out for Sunday, but head coach Dan Quinn is hopeful that the setback won't "knock him out for a long time." McLaurin made multiple splash plays in his Week 8 return despite playing only 47.2% of snaps, catching three of his four targets for 54 yards and a touchdown.
He'll hope to return for their Week 10 matchup against the Lions. In the meantime, Deebo Samuel Sr. will take on a bigger target share with Chris Moore, Luke McCaffrey, and Jaylin Lane all likely to see bumps in playing time as well.
Matthew Golden, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden has disappointed many fantasy managers this season, as he's felt like he was on the cusp of breaking out but hasn't. In Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Golden had one of his least productive fantasy outings this season, with three receptions for just four yards.
Golden, the 2025 first-round pick, has just two games of five or more targets and has been a top 24 fantasy wide receiver just once through seven games. His involvement in the Packers' offense took another hit when Christian Watson played his first game of the season and immediately caught 4-of-4 targets for 85 yards.
While the thought is that better days are certainly on the horizon for Golden, he can't be a starting option right now for fantasy managers in Week 9 against the Panthers until we see the Packers show true intent to involve Golden more in the offensive game plan.
