Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jake Walman (undisclosed) is close to making his season debut and may be ready for action on Thursday against the New York Islanders, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports. He will remain out for a third straight game on Tuesday against the New York Rangers. Tuesday's contest will likely be Troy Stecher's final appearance for some time. Walman is set to replace Stecher on the second defensive pairing, and the Oilers might also use him on the second power-play unit. Last season, Walman had a career year offensively with 40 points (seven goals, 33 assists) in 65 games and contributed 145 blocks on the defensive end.--Taavi Pailk
