The Carolina Panthers have released rookie defensive back Mike Reid, who joined the team earlier this offseason as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota. Reid was competing for a depth role in the secondary, including the nickel-back spot, but the team opted to move forward with other options, most notably second-year DB Chau Smith-Wade. While Reid didn't make the 53-man roster, Carolina is expected to bring him back on the practice squad if he clears waivers. His versatility and effort could make him a developmental piece worth monitoring as the season progresses.--Shaun Albin
