Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Bubba Chandler has been one of the most productive pitchers at Triple-A over the past two seasons and is nearing his MLB debut.

However, the Pirates have opted to promote Mike Burrows and Braxton Ashcraft to the rotation in favor of Chandler through the opening months of the campaign.

Bubba Chandler Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

Chandler has begun to hit a bit of a skid at Triple-A. Over his last four starts (9 1/3 innings, June 5 - June 22), Chandler has allowed a high 12 runs (11 earned) with a 5:8 K:BB. Given this significant slump, fantasy managers should not expect Chandler to be in the mix to reach the majors until he turns the corner.

However, Chandler began to return to form in his most recent outing on Saturday, June 28, tossing 3 1/3 innings of one-run ball. He tallied six strikeouts in this outing but showed weak command once again, allowing four free passes.

Prior to this rough stretch, the right-hander posted a strong 2.03 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and a 69:21 K:BB through his first 48 2/3 innings of the Triple-A regular season.

Bubba Chandler Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

While this recent skid has hurt his short-term fantasy stock, Chandler is still viewed as the top pitching prospect in the sport and the No. 2 overall prospect on MLB.com, only behind Boston's Roman Anthony.

During his first taste of Triple-A last summer, Chandler looked quite comfortable, posting an elite 1.83 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 54:15 K:BB. Given that Pittsburgh does not have many proven options in the back of their rotation, he remains a must-stash option in all standard leagues.
