Jonathan Cannon Starting a Rehab Assignment This Week
Jonathan Cannon (back) is being sent to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a minor-league rehab assignment this week, according to 670 The Score's Bruce Levine. Cannon thinks he'll need just one or two rehab starts before coming off the 15-day injured list. The 24-year-old should have a rotation spot waiting for him in Chicago when he's ready. Cannon has been out since early June due to a lower-back strain, but he could be back in early July to close out the first half of the season if he's able to avoid a setback during his short rehab stint on the farm. In his first 12 appearances (10 starts) this year, Cannon posted a 4.66 ERA (4.89 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with 51 strikeouts and 21 walks in 63 2/3 innings pitched. Cannon has never been much of a strikeout guy and relies on ground balls for the worst team in the American League, so his fantasy value is limited to AL-only leagues.
