Clayton Kershaw Whiffs Seven to Collect First Win
Clayton Kershaw allowed six hits and one earned run over five innings in Sunday's 7-3 road win against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 37-year-old struck out seven and walked none to pick up his first win of 2025 (1-0). The lone blemish against him came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Cardinals' shortstop Masyn Winn doubled home teammate Alec Burleson. Kershaw came into this start with eight strikeouts over his first 15 2/3 innings, so it was nice to see him tally a season-high in that regard, inducing 12 swings-and-misses for a solid 33% CSW. He'll bring an inflated 4.35 ERA and 1.55 WHIP into his next outing, a meeting with the visiting San Francisco Giants later this week.
