Luke Weaver Takes The Loss As Padres Rally Past Yankees
Luke Weaver came into a messy situation in the eighth inning on Monday night and could not put out the fire, as the Yankees' lead evaporated and the Padres pulled off a come-from-behind 4-3 win in the Bronx. Weaver came into the game with the bases loaded and two outs but gave up a double to Manny Machado, a single to Xander Bogaerts, and a walk to Luis Campusano before finally ending the inning with a groundout from Oscar Gonzalez. He was charged with two hits, one earned run, a blown save, and his first loss of the season. While Devin Williams started the trouble, Weaver couldn't escape it unscathed. On the season, Weaver is now 0-1 with three saves, but he still has a 0.59 ERA and will likely remain the Yankees' primary closer in the short term since Williams continues to struggle as well.
