Juwan Johnson is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup option for tight ends. Target him as a free agent add off waivers for Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Bench Stash/Don't Add
ROSTERED IN: 39% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson had a nice game (at least relative to other tight ends) scoring 10.6 PPR points. The tight end position is approaching Sahara Desert levels of barren wasteland, so Johnson's production seems nice in perspective.
Johnson only produced because of a touchdown in a blowout game and has to compete with teammates Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau for work at the TE position. Moreau logged two more targets than Johnson, with four total, and outscored Johnson in fantasy with 17 more yards and a touchdown.
It is awful at the tight end position this year. Even the elite tight ends had bad weeks, with none of the consensus top-3 drafted players (Sam LaPorta, Travis Kelce, and Mark Andrews) surpassing the 50-yard receiving mark. There's no reason to expect Johnson to break out with Carr spreading the ball around.
He did make a nice play for the touchdown, but one play doesn't usually indicate fantasy relevance unless it's massively dominant, and this one wasn't.

There may be better days ahead for the tight end position, but if there are, Johnson isn't likely to be key to their arrival.
