DJ Herz is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for Week 13 (2024). Target DJ Herz as a top prospect free-agent add for fantasy baseball.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 7% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Washington Nationals starting pitching prospect DJ Herz turned in his best start at the major league level last week and is worth adding in all standard formats.
On Saturday, June 15, the 23-year-old southpaw struck out 13 Marlins across six one-hit frames which is a great sign as he struggled with a 6.48 ERA, 1.92 WHIP, and 5:8 BB:K ratio through his first eight ⅓ major league innings in his first two starts.

However, even though he only looked sharp in one outing, he carries a stellar 35.0% K rate and 36.8% whiff rate. In addition, despite struggling in his first two starts, the former 2019 draft pick currently holds an overall 35.3% hard-hit rate and 2.08 and .175 xERA and xBA, respectively. All of these metrics are very strong and would place him at the top among pitchers if he were qualified and suggest that he could have gotten a bit unlucky during his first two outings.
He has relied heavily on his fastball (used 55.3% of the time) which has performed well through a small sample size with a strong 40.0% whiff rate and .245 xSLG.
Herz is lined up to face the Rockies at Coors Field in his next start on Friday, June 21 in what could be a popular streaming option. Do not wait too long to grab Herz; another stellar outing will push him into must-roster territory with his elite strikeout potential.
