NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 6/08/24

The National Hockey League playoffs have reached their end with the commencement of the Stanley Cup Finals. Will Edmonton finally break their curse or can Florida finally clinch their first Stanley Cup? During the playoffs, it is much more common to find low-scoring and heavy-hitting games. SCRATCH THAT! This year we have seen plenty of back-and-forth blowouts and teams getting swept! I will do my best to guide you through this showdown slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

DISCLOSURE: Make sure to monitor the NHL news feeds for the latest player status and injury news.

Playoff Series To-Date

Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers: Tied 0-0

DraftKings and FanDuel Captain - NHL DFS Picks

Carter Verhaeghe - DK $12.6K || FD $11.5K

Opponent - Edmonton Oilers

Carter Verhaeghe may become one of the most used players in the captain position for the Stanley Cup Finals, thanks to his role on the top line. The winger is currently playing with Aleksandar Barkov and Sam Reinhart. Two players, most teams will look to shut down, which will in turn leave Carter Verhaeghe open the majority of the time. Furthermore, he has been one of the most consistent and productive players across the 2023-2024 Stanley Cup playoffs with nine goals, eight assists, 61 shots and seven blocked shots in 17 appearances. When looking at the last five playoff games and he has two goals, two assists and 15 shots. It is very possible that the winger sees the middle six of Edmonton for the majority of this series, a middle six that is not known for their defensive prowess. Expect Carter Verhaeghe to generate one point and four shots.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • McDavid (DK $15.9K || FD $15K)
  • Tkachuk (DK $14.1K || FD $13K)

DraftKings and FanDuel Flex Players - NHL DFS Picks

Evan Bouchard - DK $12K || FD $12K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

There are only two defenseman that have played ten or more games that have a better Scoring Chances For Percentage than Evan Bouchard in the playoffs and it is Brady Skjei of the Carolina Hurricanes and Oliver Ekman-Larsson of the Florida Panthers. Bouchard also leads all defenseman in the playoffs in both goals and High Danger Chances For Percentage. It is clear that he is a crucial piece to the Oilers success and it was this time last season where he blew up and became a mainstay in the organization. With the Florida Panthers as the Oilers’ final test, Bouchard will be plenty busy between shots and blocked shots, setting up a consistent floor each night due to his peripheral production. The offensive-defenseman is expected to produce one point, three shots and two blocked shots.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - DK $11.4K || FD $10.5K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

If there is one player that has drastically underperformed this season for the Edmonton Oilers, it is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, or RNH. In 80 regular season appearances, he produced 18 goals, 49 assists and 183 shots with the bulk of the season playing alongside teammate, Connor McDavid. In comparison to previous seasons for RNH, those are great numbers, however, when comparing to his season last year when he spent nearly equal time with McDavid, those numbers could be better. Nevertheless, he is expected to slot in at left-wing next to Connor McDavid once more and for his salary, Nugent-Hopkins is always worth the risk of zero production. Furthermore, because this is a showdown slate, he may become a popular play at captain as a one-off or a stack with McDavid. In his last five playoff games, RNH has two goals, one assist, four shots and one blocked shot.

Sam Bennett - DK $10.8K || FD $10K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

Sam Bennett has been a force since his return from injury for the Florida Panthers. As a leading catalyst on the second line, he helped turn Florida’s secondary scoring into a massive advantage, knocking the New York Rangers out of the playoffs. Throughout his most recent five playoff appearances, he has had three goals, two assists, 13 shots and one blocked shot. Keep in mind that he lost winger Carter Verhaeghe to the top line during this span, making his numbers even more impressive. Bennett and the second line of the Florida Panthers are expected to see the bottom six of the Edmonton Oilers the most, setting up Bennett to have a productive Stanley Cup Finals.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP):

  • Lundell (DK $8.4K || FD $8K)
  • Holloway (DK $6.3K || FD $7K)
