Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports for Pitchers - Updates for Max Fried, Kyle Wright, Jon Gray, Blake Snell, Pete Fairbanks, Mike Clevinger

Max Fried - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB pitchers as of 6/16/2023, including Max Fried, Kyle Wright, Jon Gray, Blake Snell, Pete Fairbanks, and Mike Clevinger.

As the weekend approaches, several MLB pitchers are in the injury headlines. As always, it's important to take note of the status of the key pitchers on your roster, regardless of if they are dealing with minor or major ailments. Max Fried, Kyle Wright, Jon Gray, Blake Snell, Pete Fairbanks, and Mike Clevinger are among the banged-up pitchers that could affect fantasy lineups. We have the latest update on them all.

This is our weekly edition of fantasy baseball injury updates for pitchers as of June 16, 2023. We'll be covering all positions throughout the week, so stay tuned. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others, but with leagues of all shapes and sizes, you never know which guys will force fantasy managers to search waiver wires in hopes of finding adequate replacements.

Max Fried Injury Update

Atlanta Braves left-hander Max Fried (forearm) has resumed throwing off a mound, but he hasn't faced hitters yet. The Braves are being cautious with his rehab, and he won't be back with the team until after the All-Star break in mid-July. Fried will eventually advance to full bullpen sessions, will resume facing hitters and will then need to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment before he joins the Braves' starting rotation for the second half of the season.

The 29-year-old southpaw is dealing with a left-forearm strain and has been sidelined since early May. Fantasy managers must remain patient and keep him stashed in all formats. Before the injury, Fried was performing like an ace, going 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 26 innings over five starts.

Kyle Wright Injury Update

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Kyle Wright (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a throwing program, but there remains no timetable for his return. Wright has been out since early May due to a right-shoulder strain, and he won't be back in Atlanta's starting rotation until some point in the second half of the season after the All-Star break in mid-July.

The 27-year-old won a league-high 21 games last year for the Braves, but he was struggling with a 5.79 ERA (4.45 FIP), 1.77 WHIP, 10 walks and 20 strikeouts in five starts (18 2/3 innings) before his injury in 2023. There's still time for him to turn things around in the second half if he's healthy, though, so he's worth a pickup if he's available on your league's waiver wire when he gets closer to returning. Wright is currently rostered in 62% of Yahoo leagues.

Jon Gray Injury Update

The Texas Rangers are planning on having right-hander Jon Gray (finger) make his next start this Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Gray was scratched from his last scheduled start on Tuesday due to a blister on his pitching hand, but manager Bruce Bochy said that Gray is doing well.

Fantasy managers will be glad that the 31-year-old will be able to avoid a trip to the injured list. It's not the first time Gray has dealt with the blister this year, and the last time it was an issue, he tossed a complete game in his next start, which means he should be started with confidence this weekend. Gray has been great for Texas and fantasy managers alike this year, posting a 2.32 ERA (4.17 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, 20 walks and 63 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings over 12 starts in his second year with the team.

Blake Snell Injury Update

San Diego Padres left-hander Blake Snell (ankle) is listed as the team's probable starter on Saturday against his former team, the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite getting hit in the left ankle by a comebacker in his last start on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies, Snell was excellent, allowing one run on three hits while walking none and striking out a season-high 12 batters in seven innings in a tough no-decision.

The 30-year-old southpaw got off to another rough start this year, but he's put that behind him of late, allowing just two runs on 12 hits while walking 10 and fanning 33 over 24 innings in his last four starts. He's healthy enough to make his next start this weekend, but it will come against one of the best hitting teams in the big leagues.

Pete Fairbanks Injury Update

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks has been activated from the injured list as he returns from a hip injury. Right-hander Ryan Thompson has been optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Fairbanks needed just one tune-up start with the team's Florida Complex League club, tossing one shutout inning while striking out two of the three hitters he faced.

The flame-thrower dominated to the tune of a 1.54 ERA across 13 outings before hitting the shelf but there are some underlying concerns. His strikeout rate has dipped to just 20.4% through 11 2/3 innings while his 4.22 FIP and 4.14 SIERA suggest regression is on the horizon. However, Fairbanks should continue to be a solid source of saves at the back end of the Rays' bullpen.

Mike Clevinger Injury Update

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (biceps) said he doesn't have structural damage in his shoulder or elbow, but he's dealing with fluid in his biceps after being forced from his start early on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Clevinger called it the "best news possible." However, an injured-list stint seems likely. The White Sox haven't made an official move, but fantasy managers should prepare for one in the coming days.

The 32-year-old right-hander has already spent time on the IL this year, but he's been solid when healthy, going 3-4 with a 3.88 ERA (4.89 FIP), 1.36 WHIP, 26 walks and 53 strikeouts in 62 2/3 innings in his 12 starts. Still, fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues won't feel compelled to hang onto Clevinger after his latest injury setback.

Tarik Skubal Injury Update

Detroit Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal (elbow) looked sharp in his latest minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, tossing three scoreless innings on one hit while walking none and striking out five. This was his first rehab start with Toledo after allowing an unearned run on three hits while walking none and fanning seven in two starts (five innings) for High-A West Michigan.

The 26-year-old southpaw has yet to pitch in 2023 for the Tigers, so fantasy managers should expect him to make at least one or two more rehab starts at Toledo before he rejoins the team's starting rotation. Skubal will have a rotation spot waiting for him and will be useful in mixed leagues, so consider stashing him now. In three big-league seasons, he's gone 16-24 with a 4.15 ERA (4.32 FIP), 1.21 WHIP and 25.5% strikeout rate in 299 innings.
