Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Aaron Judge, Luis Garcia, Carlos Rodon, Kyle Wright, Eloy Jimenez

Aaron Judge

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports as of 5/8/2023, including Aaron Judge, Luis Garcia, Carlos Rodon, Kyle Wright, Eloy Jimenez, and more.

We are through the first week of May, and the injuries keep on coming. At the same time, players are returning from stints on the injured list, which is fantastic news for fantasy managers. Let's take a look at the latest updates surrounding Aaron Judge, Luis Garcia, Carlos Rodon, Kyle Wright, and Eloy Jimenez, among others.

For those not yet familiar, this is our weekly edition of fantasy baseball injury updates as of May 8, 2023. We'll be covering all positions throughout the week, so stay tuned. Some players on this list impact fantasy baseball more than others. With leagues of all shapes and sizes, you never know which guys will force fantasy managers to search waiver wires in hopes of finding adequate replacements.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Aaron Judge

New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge (hip) is on track to be activated ahead of Tuesday's series against the Oakland A's. He continues to perform running and hitting drills and is set to return to action when first eligible.

The 31-year-old has been sidelined with a strained right hip. He is slashing .261/.352/.511 with six home runs, 14 RBI, 18 runs, and two stolen bases over 26 games in 2023. Judge has underperformed a little so far this season but should provide a boost for fantasy managers once he returns to action.

Eloy Jimenez

Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez (abdomen) underwent an appendectomy on Saturday. The 26-year-old is expected to out next four to six weeks. He complained about abdominal pain Saturday night and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, which led to removing his appendix.

Jimenez is slashing .258/.351/.423 with four home runs, 15 RBI, and 12 runs across 25 games in 2022. Jimenez is expected to go on the injured list and has missed 185 games the last two seasons due to injuries. Gavin Sheets is expected to see an uptick in at-bats while Jimenez is sidelined, and the White Sox could recall outfield prospect Oscar Colas after recently demoting him to the minors earlier in the week.

Tyler Glasnow

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Tyler Glasnow (oblique) allowed two walks while striking out four across 2 2/3 innings during Friday's rehab start with Triple-A Durham. He threw 46 pitches, landing 25 for strikes. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since February with a Grade 2 oblique strain.

He made two appearances in 2022 after coming back from Tommy John surgery. Glasnow posted a 1.35 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and a 10:2 K: BB across 6 2/3 innings. The right-hander is expected to make two more rehab outings before joining Tampa Bay's roster sometime in May. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Glasnow in all league formats.

Carlos Rodon

New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon (back) will receive a cortisone injection as soon as possible, according to manager Aaron Boone. The medical consensus on Rodon is that it will help him get back on the mound. Rodon began his first season with the Yankees on the injured list due to a left-forearm injury, but a back injury continues to keep him out into May.

There's no exact timetable on when the 30-year-old southpaw will be able to get back on a mound, though, so fantasy managers can only sit and wait. At this point, it might be wishful thinking for Rodon to make his 2023 debut for the Yanks until late May or early June.

Luis Garcia

Houston Astros starting pitcher Luis Garcia (elbow) will have Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, according to general manager Dana Brown. A date for the surgery hasn't been set. Garcia left his last start early on May 1 against the San Francisco Giants after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow, and now he'll miss the remainder of the 2023 season and most likely around half of next season as he recovers.

The 26-year-old was 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA, 10 walks and 31 strikeouts in his six starts before his injury, and he had registered back-to-back scoreless outings prior to his final start on May 1. With Jose Urquidy (shoulder) on the injured list, Houston's rotation will be short-handed until Lance McCullers Jr. (forearm) is able to make his season debut. Garcia can obviously be safely dropped in single-year leagues.

Kyle Wright

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Kyle Wright (shoulder) recently landed on the 15-day injured list. However, the team has reason to remain optimistic, with an MRI revealing on Friday that the righty has a shoulder strain. While the news is still not ideal, it's better than an alternative.

Wright hasn't looked the best in 2023, amassing an 0-1 record (five starts) and a 5.79 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 10 walks. This is his second stint on the IL this season, so the Braves will likely play it safe before putting him back on the bump. In a corresponding move, Atlanta recalled Dylan Dodd from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Jose Altuve

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve (thumb) took batting practice before Saturday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Altuve has been sidelined all season since he broke his thumb while playing in the World Baseball Classic in late March. The 33-year-old is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list on May 25.

He is set to undergo imaging and could begin a rehab assignment shortly. Altuve is trending in the right direction and, barring any setbacks, could return to action by June. Mauricio Dubon should continue to see an uptick at at-bats and handle leadoff duties while Altuve remains sidelined.
