PROSPECT: Jonatan Clase, OF, Seattle Mariners
ANALYSIS: Clase, at 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds, is an undersized speed threat who signed with the club back in 2018. Scouts instantly fell in love with his baserunning, but once he joined the Mariners' organization, he started to show off promising bat-to-ball skills and equally impressive power.
The outfielder's top-notch bat speed was presumably the source of his unexpected surge of home runs in 2022, and that appears to be continuing into 2023.
The 20-year-old is coming off a big week at High-A in which he went 11-for-28 with four doubles, four homers, and seven RBI. He also tallied three walks, eight strikeouts, and four stolen bases.
ADVICE: Outside of the high strikeout rate, these are impressive results that could translate to a long and successful career for Clase. He should gain some long-term interest in dynasty leagues.
