NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 12/13/22

The wild outcomes continue to flood each slate leading up to the holiday roster freeze. As we approach Christmas, teams will be upset and many will use their current success and failure as a measuring point for their next steps after the freeze is over. This includes roster moves up to the hour prior to puck drop if the player is close enough and it requires Daily Fantasy Players to be more mindful of last-minute news. Tonight we will have ourselves a solid 12-game slate with a plethora of good matchups. There will be multiple teams playing on a back-to-back: Anaheim, Dallas, New Jersey, Edmonton and Nashville . The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Toronto with 4.6, Florida with 4.2 and Washington with 3.7 goals. I will do my best in guiding you through this twelve-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Vegas Odds for the Day

NHL DFS Goalies

Linus Ullmark- DK $8.2K || FD $8.5K

Opponent - New York Islanders

There is no other way to say it…the Islanders are struggling. There have been plenty of rumors that they are looking to ‘shake’ things up once again, despite that never working out for them. In the last 10 games, the Islanders are in the bottom ten of the league in Goals Scored Per 60 – 2.08 – and they are just north of the bottom ten in Scoring Chances For Per 60 – 26.78 –. The Bruins over the season have the best defense in the league, conceding a stellar 1.68 goals. This looks to be the perfect matchup for Ullmark who is averaging a 0.955 Save Percentage over his last five games.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Kochetkov (DK $7.9K || FD $7.3K), Campbell (DK $7.7K || FD $7.6K)

NHL DFS Centers

John Tavares-DK $6.7K || FD $8K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

I would personally be amazed if Tavares is not 25 percent or more owned in every contest tonight. The Ducks are playing on the second-half of their back-to-back and they already possess one of the worst defenses in the league: worst in Shots Against Per 60 – 37.07 –, Scoring Chances Against Per 60 – 34.25 – and the second-worst in Goals Against Per 60 – 3.29 –. Their second-line is also one of the worst defensive lines in the entire league giving up 11.28 Relative Fenwick Against Per 60. This is a no-brainer play tonight.

Jack Roslovic- DK $3.2K || FD $4.7K

Opponent - Florida Panthers

Roslovic should also see a fair share of ownership, despite this being a 12-games slate. The center has found form with teammate Patrik Laine dropping down to the second-line to spark the offense. In their last game against the Kings, Roslovic scored 2 goals, assisted 2 goals and took 2 shots. Whether producing himself or getting lucky enough to set up Laine’s magical moment, Roslovic will have every chance to succeed while he plays with Laine.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): McDavid (DK $9.6K || FD $10.6K), Hertl (DK $5.4K || FD $7K)

NHL DFS Wings

Mitch Marner- DK $7K || FD $8.4K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

Since we last spoke about Marner he has added to his point-streak, now sitting at 22 games – a franchise record –. It seems that the move to the second-line ultimately helped his production, playing alongside teammate John Tavares who has been aforementioned. In Marner’s last five games, he has 5 goals, 2 assists and 18 shots. If you need any run down a rundown on Anaheim’s defense, look at John Tavares's highlight.

Alex Ovechkin- DK $8K || FD $9.2K

Opponent - Chicago Blackhawks

I said this once not too long ago and I will say it again. I feel that Ovechkin is not being talked about enough. Whether it is the struggling Capitals’ offense in general or his linemates, I am unsure, but the captain is having another great season at a point-per-game pace. In his last five games, he has 4 goals, 1 assist and 26 shots. On DraftKings, he is currently averaging the shot bonus per game! Over the last 10 games, the Blackhawks are the league’s worst defense, conceding 3.63 Goals Against Per 60 and believe it or not they are also the worst in Scoring Chances Against Per 60 – 35.82 –. This matchup may be one of the best on the slate.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Nichushkin (DK $7.2K || FD $8.1K), Tervainen (DK $3.6K || FD $4.1K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

Ben Hutton- DK $2.5K || FD $3.7K

Opponent - Winnipeg Jets

Hutton has been promoted for the time being to the Golden Knights’ top power-play unit as the quarterback. With one game under his belt, he has 1 assist, 4 shots and 3 blocked shots. It is unclear whether that production can be sustained in the current role, but while he is producing at those levels and the extremely low salary, he is a massive bargain.

Rasmus Sandin- DK $3.9K || FD $3.8K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

We continue the Maple Leafs train with Sandin. The defenseman has gotten a plethora of added responsibilities since teammate Morgan Reilly went down with injury and in that time, Sandin has run away with it. He may not always produce points, but Toronto’s Goals Against Per 60 has gone down by

0.4 goals. As I said in the Marner highlight, if you need Anaheim’s defensive rundown, look to John Tavares’s highlight.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Carlson (DK $7.2K || FD $7.8K), Bjork (DK $3.7K || FD $5.3K)
