Fantasy Football Wide Receiver Player Outlooks

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown enjoyed an efficient 2024 season as a top-three WR, scoring a career-high 12 TDs with a pristine 81.6% catch rate. He is locked in as the go-to wideout on one of the best offenses in the NFL. And while he shares touchdown equity with the running backs, Jared Goff isn't eating up TDs or yardage with his legs.

The two-time All-Pro was also a top-three WR in 2023, with an established floor on a potent offense that plays in a dome, giving fantasy managers the confidence to take ARSB in the first round. He was the best wide receiver outside of Ja'Marr Chase from Week 6 on as well. Few can boast a similar set of circumstances within a prime age window for performance, even if a true WR1 finish atop the leaderboard feels unlikely. Most will be thrilled to have him available when their first pick comes around!

Garrett Wilson, New York Jets

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been productive throughout his three-year career. The wideout was the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2022 while surpassing the 1,000-yard receiving mark in his first three seasons in the National Football League. Yet, some feel he has fallen somewhat short of expectations, considering he hasn't earned a place on a Pro Bowl roster. In all fairness, the 2022 No. 10 overall pick has had to catch passes from Zach WilsonMike WhiteTrevor Siemian, and Tim Boyle over the years.

He also had Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco under center, although it's safe to say both men are well past their prime. With Justin Fields now the new signal-caller in New York, how will his presence impact Wilson's potential? Fields needs to improve in many areas of his game, specifically his accuracy and decision-making. His tendency to rely on the run can also be a problem. With that in mind, Wilson is still the undisputed No. 1 receiver on the depth chart, and there isn't anyone on the roster who appears to have a shot to surpass him.

As a result, Fields should look in his direction often during the season. Granted, there might be growing pains as the duo works to establish a rapport. Yet, it's still reasonable to assume Wilson has an excellent chance of having his best season yet, mainly if Fields builds on his career-high 65.8 completion percentage from last season. Wilson is listed as a top-15 wide receiver in RotoBaller's standard and PPR fantasy rankings. However, his durability could be enough to give him the edge over Tee Higgins and Nico Collins, players who have struggled with injuries.

Wilson may also be a safer option than Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who will compete with Cooper Kupp for targets, and Drake London, who hasn't been as consistent. The 24-year-old comes in as WR16 in the latest RotoBaller rankings and could easily finish as a top-10 WR in fantasy if Fields and Wilson show good chemistry in 2025.

Jaylen Waddle, Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle yet again disappointed fantasy managers in 2024. Waddle's 2022 season, in which he finished as the WR8 in normal PPR scoring leagues, catching 75 of his 117 targets for 1,356 yards and eight touchdowns, doesn't seem remotely likely to repeat itself. Waddle's target numbers have followed a downward trend over the last three seasons -- after averaging 8.75 per game in 2021, he followed with 6.88 in 2022, 7.43 in 2023, and just 5.53 in 2024. Things are different in Miami now.

The offensive line has significantly regressed since 2023. The Dolphins also now have running back De'Von Achane, the league's best pass-catching running back, available to help them pick up gains with short passes and not risk as many turnovers throwing the ball down the field. Additionally, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has a hugely concerning injury history, and another concussion could knock him out of action for an extended time. When he doesn't play, Waddle doesn't produce fantasy-relevant stat lines.

Waddle finished as the WR34 in 2023 and the WR46 in 2024, yet is still being drafted as the WR30 in PPR leagues. Perhaps if WR Tyreek Hill continues to fall off, Waddle could get more targets, but Waddle's recent play doesn't inspire much confidence. There's a glimmer of hope now, as tight end Jonnu Smith was traded away, but the offense will need to find more success with deep passing for Waddle to shine. And that's a big question mark.
