Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:
Stefon Diggs, WR, New England Patriots
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs (chest) was limited in practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday due to a chest injury. Diggs' chest injury isn't considered serious, so the 31-year-old veteran pass-catcher should be able to play without any restrictions for this Sunday's upcoming matchup against the visiting Cleveland Browns.
The four-time Pro Bowler is still searching for his first touchdown of the member of the Patriots, but he has been impressively efficient while working with improved quarterback Drake Maye so far this year. Diggs has caught 39 of his 44 targets for 456 yards and is coming off a seven-catch, 69-yard performance in the Week 7 win over the Tennessee Titans. Diggs and the Patriots' passing game will face a difficult matchup against Cleveland's defense this weekend, where he should be considered more of a low-end WR2 play.
Troy Franklin, WR, Denver Broncos
Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin saw 10 targets in Sunday's 33-32 comeback win over the New York Giants to tie with counterpart wide receiver Courtland Sutton for the most on the team. In what was a dramatic comeback win for the Broncos, as they were shut out for the first three quarters, Franklin caught their first offensive touchdown as it ricocheted off of a defender's hands that was guarding the primary target Sutton, into his hands for the score.
Franklin would only catch two more passes other than that one on the day, leaving him with three catches for 19 yards and a score for the day. While the target count is encouraging, Franklin will look to improve his efficiency next week against the Dallas Cowboys at home.
Tyler Allgeier, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier (knee, hip) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. He's a new addition to the injury report as Allgeier is dealing with a few minor issues. Allgeier hasn't done much on the field lately as he rushed for 16 yards on four carries during last week's loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He has seen double digit carries in four games this season, but it hasn't resulted in a ton of fantasy value.
Whether he's healthy or not, Allgeier isn't going to have much value while Bijan Robinson is healthy and running like he has been in the backfield. He projects to be a risky FLEX option in a week 8 tilt against the Miami Dolphins.
Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell has cooled off significantly after his breakout Week 4 performance. With Jaylen Warren returning to full strength, Gainwell has managed just nine carries for 36 yards over the past two games. Over that span, Gainwell has played 36% of the snaps, while Warren has commanded 61%, establishing himself as the team's lead back.
Gainwell now profiles as a third-down back and a handcuff option in fantasy formats. While Gainwell could offer some PPR upside, unless Warren misses time, Gainwell holds little standalone fantasy value moving forward.
DJ Moore, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore (hip) was able to return to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday after being held out of practice on Wednesday due to a hip injury. Moore suffered the injury in Week 6 and was able to play through it in Week 7, so he could be on track to suit up again in Week 8 against the Baltimore Ravens. The 28-year-old has recorded 22 catches for 258 yards and a touchdown on 31 targets across six games so far this season.
Moore appears to have fallen behind Bears wideout Rome Odunze in the team's pecking order for targets, and rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III may eventually threaten him as well. Assuming Moore is able to play on Sunday against Baltimore, he profiles as a solid WR3/flex option for fantasy managers.
