Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 8:

Tucker Kraft, TE, Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft has been solidly productive over the last couple of weeks and put up his best target-earning game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. Kraft earned a career-high 10 targets, parlaying that opportunity into five receptions, 55 yards, and a touchdown.

With injuries to multiple receivers in this Packers' offense, including Dontayvion Wicks (calf) leaving Week 7's game early, Kraft and wide receiver Romeo Doubs have taken the bulk of the pass-catching duties for Green Bay. Both Kraft and Doubs combined for over 60 percent of the Packers' targets in Week 7, up from Week 6's 42 percent mark.

Kraft is a top tight end option against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to the tight end position this season.

Dalton Schultz, TE, Houston Texans

Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz (back, shoulder) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice session. Schultz appears to be dealing with a pair of injuries, but that didn't stop him from having success on Monday.

He hauled in nine receptions for 98 yards in the loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Texans are banged up right now, so Schultz could see a heavy workload again this weekend. If he sits, Harrison Bryant would be asked to pick up the slack during the Week 8 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth caught four of his five targets for 111 yards and two touchdowns during Thursday's Week 7 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals. His touchdowns came on 19-yard and 68-yard receptions, the latter of which gave Pittsburgh a late lead (that they would ultimately relinquish). Freiermuth had not yet posted a fantasy performance with more than 6.1 fantasy points this season (PPR), so Thursday's breakout was admittedly unexpected.

It should give fantasy managers optimism moving forward, but there's no denying that the 26-year-old continues to face competition at the tight end position. Fellow tight ends Jonnu Smith and Darnell Washington each scored touchdowns on Thursday night, too, offering Aaron Rodgers plenty of options when he's looking to target big, physical receivers in the passing game. As a result, managers should view Freiermuth as a low-end TE2 for Week 8.

Theo Johnson, TE, New York Giants

New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson caught three of his seven targets for 66 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's Week 7 loss against the Denver Broncos. The highlight of his performance was a 41-yard touchdown in which Johnson caught a pass that had deflected off one of his teammates. The 24-year-old has been quite productive since the Giants lost receiver Malik Nabers (knee), posting 14 catches, 143 yards, and four touchdowns over his last four games.

During that four-week window, he's the overall TE5 in PPR leagues. Interestingly, he has shown that he can co-exist alongside Daniel Bellinger, as the two tight ends have combined for at least seven catches in two of the Giants' last three games. With that being said, Johnson, whose fantasy value has become touchdown-dependent, remains the preferred option in the passing game over Bellinger.

He's a mid-to-high TE2 heading into Week 8 against Philadelphia.
