Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 7:
Hassan Haskins, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Hassan Haskins started Sunday's game but quickly faded as second-year back Kimani Vidal took over in the team's 29-27 win over the Miami Dolphins. Haskins managed only six carries for 14 yards and one catch for nine yards, while Vidal exploded for 138 total yards and a touchdown.
Even against the league's worst run defense, Haskins struggled to produce, averaging just 2.3 yards per carry. With Omarion Hampton (ankle) still on IR for at least the next three games, Vidal appears to be the clear RB1 moving forward. Haskins can be dropped in shallow fantasy leagues or stashed in deeper formats unless injuries occur again.
Wan'Dale Robinson, WR, New York Giants
In the absence of wide receiver Malik Nabers (knee), who is done for the year with a torn ACL, New York Giants wideout Wan'Dale Robinson has become the team's clear No. 1 pass-catcher. Robinson paced the Giants' pass-catchers in their upset victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last Thursday night, catching six of his seven targets for 84 yards and his second touchdown of the season.
Most of the 24-year-old's damage came on a 35-yard touchdown hookup with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. In two games without Nabers, Dart has targeted Robinson 14 times, making it clear that he's going to be a primary target for the young signal-caller moving forward. The upcoming matchup on the road against a stingy Denver Broncos defense isn't ideal, but Robinson's increased volume at least makes him a waiver-wire target if he's still available in your league.
Kimani Vidal, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal exploded in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins with 18 carries for 124 yards (6.89 YPC) and three catches for 14 yards with a receiving touchdown. With rookie sensation Omarion Hampton (ankle) set to miss at minimum the next three games, Vidal was the clear RB1 in this offense, with Hassan Haskins hardly used on Sunday, with only six carries for 14 yards and one reception for nine yards.
Vidal played 70% of the snaps, while Haskins played only 28% of them. Vidal proved he is the running back fantasy managers should prioritize in this offense, and moving forward, Vidal should provide low-end RB2 value until Hampton returns. Up next for the Chargers is a tougher matchup at home against the Indianapolis Colts, who rank in the top 10 against opposing running backs.
Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been a consistently inconsistent fantasy receiver throughout his career, with spike week games followed by games where he flat out disappears. In a Packers' offense that trends aggressively this season with downfield throws, quarterback Jordan Love has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league in EPA per play and other similar metrics.
For fantasy, we haven't seen that materialize to consistent fantasy success, but Doubs has been excellent over the last two games for the Packers. With a combined 17 targets and a 31 percent first-read target rate, Love is utilizing Doubs as his most consistent target through five games, but especially in recent games, as Doubs has had his two best fantasy finishes of the season (WR3 and WR30) in the last two weeks.
For fantasy, Doubs has earned WR3 or high-end flex treatment in Week 7 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Rico Dowdle, RB, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle has been the talk of the NFL lately, recording 373 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 60 total touches across his last two games played. Dowdle has been filling in for Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard (calf), who could make his return in Week 7 against the New York Jets.
However, Panthers head coach Dave Canales has been non-committal about whether Hubbard will remain the starter once he returns. While Hubbard will certainly get his touches, it's hard to imagine that Carolina would completely remove Dowdle from the game plan, given what he has done over the last two weeks.
If there are any leagues where Dowdle remains available, he needs to be rostered in all fantasy formats and could be a borderline must-start running back in Week 7, even if Hubbard returns to the lineup.
